  1. I thought it was a really creative piece, I really enjoyed the themes you used. I personally thought some of the piano writing could be improved, it felt mechanical and seemed quite repetitive. Also I thought that the piano tremolo part dragged on for a tad too long. However I really enjoyed the piece, it had some great moments and the interaction between the piano and orchestra was fantastic.
  2. I liked it, it was very relaxing without being dull. I agree that it sounds more like an accompaniment to a vocal song though, I kept waiting for the vocals to come in but it never did. Adding a lyrical line or rearranging the piece to fit one in would definitely make it amazing.
  3. Hey, I just finished a piano solo piece. Please give me any opinions/criticism. I may try record a live playing of it later. romance.sib romance.mid
  4. Thanks for the observations, I was aiming to create a sparse feel to the piece but now I think adding some percussion and more brass will make for more effective contrasts. I'll be starting the second part soon.
  5. Something I've been working on for past week. Haven't got around to finishing the lyrics yet. Not sure if the structure works. closer.mid

  8. The first part/movement written for a small-medium ensemble. Comments and suggestions for improvement would be greatly appreciated. fantasy1.sib fantasy1.mid
  9. My intention for the piece was for it to consist of mainly of short repeating fragments and motifs with sudden changes to set the atmosphere. Kinda like how your senses change when you feel safe or in danger. However I'm not sure how effective this was conveyed. The piano part is meant to form the ground of the piece and keep it moving.
  10. The piece is meant to be played for a small ensemble but there should be about two people per instrument for the wind section. The ensemble I intend to play the piece with does have quite a powerful string section though. The piano part is meant to be played by one person, I split it into three sections to perhaps maker it more visually clearer to the pianist (hopefully). The middle stave is meant to be of least importance (apart from the beginning). I am thinking of reworking the ending, I'm trying to convey that sense of "escape" but at the same time make a 'natural' or smooth transition into an ending.
