--- POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED. THANKS EVERYONE! ---
Well, I'm not entirely sure about the best way to go looking for a composer. So if this isn't such a great way to do it, and you have another idea, by all means tell me. This is the best idea I've come up with so far. =P
So, my name is Stephen Anthony and I'm independently producing a console-style RPG called Ara Fell: First Light. You can check out the website here ... Ara Fell Website where some story information and screenshots are available.
To get straight to the point, I'm trying to create this game with as well-crafted a story as I'm capable. In this form of media, which is typically considered a very low-brow means of storytelling, the most effective way to really get a story across is with art and music. Hopefully you can see from the screenshots that the art is being taken seriously, and the music, in my opinion, is equally important.
Ara Fell is a game that will attempt to engross the player with ambiance and atmosphere and I'm sure several of you here would be perfectly suited for this. Being an independent project, funding is very limited, though... But hopefully if anyone is interested in this, we'll be able to work something out.
I'm guessing on what I'm about to say next, as the music end of this hasn't been completely planned out... But here's what I expect to need.
10 to 15 fairly short, looping ambient background songs. They'll set the mood of the area you're in. They would likely be focused more on atmosphere and ambiance than anything else. They may fade in and out and be completely silent for several seconds at a time and would range anywhere from 20-60 seconds long on average. These would be combined with background sound effects such as birds, insects, wind, villagers and/or water.
10 to 15 longer, more developed "theme" songs. The title music and game's main theme, for example. The villain's song or a piece meant to motivate the player, or show a character's determination. Heroic or tragic/sad pieces.
I can provide you with any additional information that you might need, and additionally, there is no deadline, so you'll have months to get it done. (The game itself is likely more than a year away from completion.)
So, that's it! Again, please let me know if any of you need anything else from me and hopefully we can work something out. Thanks very much!
