  1. I want to learn them. Thats what i want them for. and thanks everyone for the suggestions.
  2. really, well that sucks for me. oh well. thanks anyways.
  3. i am dying to find a copy of either one of Shostakovichs 2 Piano concertos. but here is the catch, i can't pay for them. So if anyone knows of somewhere i can find these concertos for free please tell me. Thank you :)
  4. Philip Glass, even though most people hate minimalism, i love it very dearly
  5. I guess that the piece that inspired me the most would be Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Before i listend to that, i was a very heavily influence classical man, my music did not spread beyond Puccini. Then i heard this piece, and i was lovestruck. Now i write very modern music, and i am a heavy promoter of creating your own original techniques to include in a piece. I love dissonance so much, just because of this piece.
  6. This thread is going to be geared towards new music. Anything new musicy that you want to post here is okay too do. So here is the thing about modern music, it's REALLY REALLY COOL. Even though there are times where it can sound like a chorus of rats, dogs, birds and small children all being thrown into a giant blender at the same time, modern composers really know how to change the way we perceive music through their inovation of new tonal techniques. I shall start with saying 3 things that really impress me. 1. Electronic classical music. It's like techno, but without the annoying beat and voices that say stupid stuff. Instead a composer will make music using an electronic soundboard. Pretty crazy huh? 2. Tan Dun, Concerto for Water Percussion and Orchestra. I saw this one in concert not too long ago. In the middle of the stage there is a percussion soloist, who plays a wide range of wacky percussion instruments, but plays most of them IN THE WATER!!!! It was weird but so cool too watch. 3. R. Murray Schaffer, North-White for Snowmobile and Orchestra. Where i live, we have a thing called the New Music Festival at our local symphony orchestra. It's a celebration of New Music throughout the world. Schaffer, a Canadian composer, is one of the pioneers of what he calls "noise pollution". He says that the world is becoming too loud. So in protest to this noisy planet, he wrote a piece of music where, in the middle, a Snowmobile starts to rev it's engines. Quite the astounding thing. This is my controbution, I hope that this will expand to be a usefull database for new composers to get some inspiration for new and wonderful music. have fun
