Medievalism! [And more]
Frederik Sj replied to Frederik Sj's topic in Incidental Music and Soundtracks
Thanks, I guess not everyone is found of the folkish sounding tunes, however im pretty happy with how med01_long.mp3, village01.mp3 and forestwalk01.mp3 sounds so far. (They are pretty different from "folkish" and "more folkish".) Im going to develop them further since they are the first drafts on what the music might be like in the game. The goal with guhnk05 was to create something calm and soothing. It is kind of slow and not much happens in it. I might continue this tune at some point in the future, but as for now i've put it on hold. I have had big plans on developing rise_fallen further. Its going to rise up to a dratmatic climax and things will happen. However, the reason i haven't worked on this one for quite some time is that i sortof ran out of ideas. That happens alot to me. I get one idea, i create it. But then im left off not being sure where to take it. But im very happy with the atmosphere i've got in it so far. Here is a different tune i made quite a while back. http://www.freds3d.com/wip/hmm01-01.mp3 Thanks for your comments, violinboy. And you others who listen to these tunes, please let me know your opinions :) Cheers! -
Well.. thanks for the information  So does this person have any music we can listen to?

Hi everybody! I haven't been around much lately. Mostly due to a lot of work but also because of some lack of inspiration. However, i feel that I'm back on track with my music now. The past 6 months I've been doing a few songs, i took a break from the usual orchestral stuff and started doing more electronic music to explore other horizons. Then i drifted on to some more medievalish music which was inspired from some new instruments i purchased for my computer. New samplings of rare instruments. Medievalism. I am using this medieval inspiration of mine to make music for a project. A game is being produced by a group of people of which one is a friend of mine. So i thought i'd make a few tracks to see what they thought about it and it looks like they enjoyed it and want more :musicwhistle: Anyways, enough of this talking. http://www.freds3d.com/wip/folkish01.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/med01_long.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/more_folkish01.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/village01.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/forestwalk01.mp3 And here are a few other tunes i made during my absence from the YC-forums. http://www.freds3d.com/wip/guhnk05.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/rise_fallen01-06.mp3 http://www.freds3d.com/wip/greetings01.mp3 I also felt like trying out something with bagpipes. http://www.freds3d.com/wip/the_return02.mp3 Let me know what you think, any crits and comments are appreciated. You could also stay quiet, but i'd prefer the other way :glare: Cheers, everybody!

Playing with Xylophones
Frederik Sj replied to Frederik Sj's topic in Incidental Music and Soundtracks
I've been around for a while. Mostly lurking since i cant participate in all the music-theory discussions due to my lack of knowledge of music theory. Heh. Sometimes i have a tendency to make my songs a tad too repetitive. Thats something i need to practice more. To be able to break free from the repetitiveness and make a more dynamic track. As for the soundtrack of National Treasure, i dont remember what it sounded like >.< -
Hello everybody. Long time no see. I haven't been around for a while but lately i have been busy creating my latest work. It started as a test to play around with Xylophones and ended up as something bigger. I'd love to hear you peoples opinion about it so here it is. http://www.freds3d.com/wip/what_ees_dees06.mp3 Best Regards, Frederik Sj

Two Scary Months of Inspiration-shortage
Frederik Sj replied to Frederik Sj's topic in Incidental Music and Soundtracks
I haven't had much time lately to do much, so no Update yet. But soon! Ravel: Thanks, mate. Since my favorite composer of all time is Hans Zimmer i take your comments as a big compliment. Thanks :) Christopher: I believe you are right. And i agree. Usually, i finalize the mixing later on in the project to make it sound as good as possible in order to bring out the best of every frequency. Kyle Infante: Thanks :) I usually visualize everything in my head while making a song. So i can hear exactly in my head what i want, and i then try to make it as close to my ideas as possible. If i dont have any specific idea to start with, i basically start somewhere and let it come to me in time. However, i should buy some basic theory books soon as i believe it would help in order to do certain things. As for now, i am self-taught. Odenkraft: Heja Sverige :) Good idea with using the melody as a form of reoccuring theme. I might steal that idea, if you dont mind ;) Cheers eveybody! -
Holy crap.. those where some scary months. After the stressful crunch of fininshing up Independent Warrior in time i was so drained of inspiration that i haven't touched anything music-making-related since then. Until now. Last night, i dusted off my keyboard and started the way i always start when i dont have any particular song in mind. The philosophy of "Every song begins with one note". So i put down one note and developed it further until i got something i liked. So far i like it, still needs editing and tweaking, and last but not least, it needs to be more developed and longer as it is kindof short at the moment. Anyways, i'll post the WIP right here for you to listen and comment to ;) A_different_time02.mp3 (2.05 MB) Feel obligated to review :( (j/k) Cheers, everybody.

Ok so i have finally finished up this song i made for a project. You may have heard an earlier Work In Progress version of it, but now its done and its time for me to move on. Frederik Sj

Hmm.. i am not familiar with that "stress"-term in the context of comopsing. Could someone explain it to me?
-
Yes, listen to this dude above me. Negative thoughts are actually unhealthy, heh. Keep your mind positive towards your capabilities. See your potential. And use it to your advantage. Cheers

Well, im bringing this up since i myself don't know any notation. Don't know how to read it nor how to write it. Although, the biggest problem i have when i create my music is that sometimes its really hard to get my ideas down. Is it the same for you people who do notation? Or do you find it easier with notation? Sometimes i come up with awesome tunes in my head that, to me, sounds great. I just want to put it down but the only way i could do it would be to record it in a microphone with my mouth. But i could hardly mimic all of those intstruments at once using only my mouth, now could i? Now, some people may use a piano or keyboard or some other instrument to record their song with. My problem is that i can barely play the keyboard. I wander around with my fingers back and forth until it sounds good. Well, more than that. I use several fingers sometimes. However, i can't force myself to play anything i want. I have realised that my biggest problem is to translate the tempo that i have in my head, to the sequencer on my computer. Since i have to put a tempo, 120 for example, where is this number within my head? Cant find it! Doh.. Anyways, whats your views on this whole subject? Is it unbearable to Compose without notation? Whats the pro's/con's with knowing notation? How long would it take for someone like me to learn? Is it possible to learn it on your own? As in self-taught? The way i am. Feel free to add to the discussion  Anyways, keep hikin' :( Cheers

String Orchesta, PLEASE REVIEW!
Frederik Sj replied to Violin555's topic in Orchestral and Large Ensemble
I agree with ]\/[4. Besides, i was under the impression of this being a forum where we should encourage eachother to get better, to keep going and to make music. I was under the impression of this being a forum where we encourage creativity. I was under the impression of this being a forum where we all share a common thing. For example the love of making music. This thread twisted my view. As if there was a difference between the art-communities around the net and the music-communities. In the art community everyone gives and takes. Everyone helps eachother to improve their skills and gives eachother guidance to further develop skills. This art-community has 210,822 members (Its huge). And they all pretty much share one common thing. The love for making art, being creative. Its like the art-communities has been around longer and therefore are more mature. Now thats the impression i get. Being creative is the best feeling in the world. We shouldn't bash or discourage eachother, especially not over small things. This is the impression that i got from this thread basically. But then ]\/[4 came along and put my mind at peace, for that gave me hope that this might be a mature place after all. Good job :D Keep up the creativity! (By the way, i don't have finale so i can't check out that tune)
