  1. Thank you, Sarastro, so much. For some reason I thought that it was a case of duple meter. The tempo and quick succession of notes fooled me. I wish there was a way to transcribe this song, it goes something like D – E – D – E – D – E – D – E – D – E – D – D – C – D – C – D – C – D – C – D – E – F – E – F – E – F – E – F – E – F – E – E – F – E – D – C – B – A, but, obviously, I need the exact rhythm.
  2. Could anybody tell me which meter is written in as well as in what tonality and are there any changes ?
  3. Hasn't she studied music at the Tisch Shool of Arts?
  4. Wow! :D Thank you, all, very much! I found this, for example: http://mediamusicforum.com/composition-strings.html
  5. I was wondering whether someone could suggest: 1. books, manuals etc. 2. online resources 3. literature (i.e. scores & works) for studying the writing for string orchestras and ensembles, for classical, popular, jazz, Broadway, film music.
  6. Here you go! :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCORE_%28software%29
  7. And there was this thread: http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t16729/how-to-study-the-score/page__fromsearch__1
  8. You can find a nice list of important scores here: http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t16664/scores-for-studying-orchestration/
  9. Are there particular passages, ouvertures, moments, whole operas... from these three composers that you think have particularly effective, striking and beautiful orchestration? Perhaps a random note: Riccardo Chailly talked in one interview about Verdi's masterpieces of orchestration and mentioned as an example the dark, thick, black, funèbre sound of the last act of Aïda. He also mentioned Mahler's fascination with the composer and that while orchestrating his Fourth he was conducting Falstaff and that the two share many colouring ideas. :)
  10. Does anyone know the names of these period brass Elfman used for Rabbit's fanfare? http://scoringsessions.com/news/215/
