  1. This is an old piano solo I wrote... Uh, enjoy? In The Asylum
  2. Beyond beautiful. Too many people on this forum believe complexity makes everything better. More notes= better piece, right? No. This is wonderful. Its simple, beautiful and stylistic. Did I mention beautiful?
  3. Indeed... prudent. =P
  4. I use Finale 09 and love it. Its a great tool. However, it can be very limiting. Even though you can do almost anything with the program, some options are not readily available and you have to be a wiz at the computer to get every possible sound you want out of the program. I find that, if i usually write all of my music, first by playing it on either guitar, piano, or percussion. I find all of my main themes by playing them. Then i sit and write into the program and refuse to settle for anything less than what is in my mind. If it takes me a half hour to get a sound, i work to get it as opposed to settling for something less expressive. Writing by hand is FAR better for growing in composition and for better expressing your thoughts but i am often too impatient for pencil and paper. I use them when im in class or anywhere away from my computer. I am a much faster clicker than i am a writer.
  5. Play Advent Rising. The first scene when u fly the space shuttle has a similar feel to it if i remember right. So if u were going for space, you have professional style or similar to it.
  6. very nice! I liked the chorale like i told u on facebook. =) Its very dynamic. It does grasp the listener but not in the average way. Its more of the fact that the listener is always on the edge of their seat, waiting to hear whats next. It makes one uncomfortable because it is so hard to predict anything. The uncomfortable factor is not bad though. It really cool! overall, goo job! keep it up and congratz on finale 09.
  7. ok i just got interested in cometitions and have too much work this week but i think im in on the next cmc. Good luck to everybody participating in this one.
  8. no arguments here
  9. I get what ur sayin. u were waiting for something that never came. thats happened to me with an elevator once (i was forced to take the stairs on crutches)... i just didnt get that in this piece. but music doesnt have the same impression on everybody so i dont guess we can definitively say its right or wrong. But i enjoyed it so... ah whutta i know?
  10. oh nice. im loving this one. something on the forum you can dance to. =)
  11. I agree with Reth only in the sense that it sounds Lord of the Rings ish. But I love Howard Shore so that isnt bad. I actually loved the piece. I do not think that Reth gets the idea that it was written as computer game music. It is meant to be listened to while playing a game. It reminds me of Advent Rising in the game world. LOL 18 year old gamer talkin. But ya, overall, great piece of music you have here. Is there a score?
  12. kind of a lame name i know but whatever. I wrote the intro to this a while back and the rest took me the better half of a night. Just tell me wutcha think. Here is a link to my myspace with two works on it. I guess u can comment about either but im more interested in input on the second one. Its newer... sorta M.S.Clevenger on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
  13. my finale 2009 shuts down on playback but it seems to pick certain files that it does this on. it never happens if i am working on a shorter piece or one with few instruments. any large ensemble has potential to shut down randomly on mine. but some days everything runs just fine.
  14. Pencil, staff paper, piano, guitar, drums, finale '09, midi controllers, my brain. i want my own laptop that can support finale '09 so i don't have to share the desktop with my brothers.
  15. wow... thats a lot of happy. Anyways... When i first began composing, i would sit down and try to convey an emotion or feeling and the piece would sound too artificial. My music sounded exactly like i was trying to convey an emotion but i was unable to convince myself or listeners that i had really illustrated the emotion in music. However, I have come to a point where i do not write to convey emotions but simply sit at my piano or play my guitar, drums, marimba etc.. and i find that my emotions come out naturally. I have been told by my classmates and friends that my music lately is very representative of myself and communicates easily with listeners.
