  1. I'm currently doing all of these. Hopefully the composition competition, and my rachmaninov arrangement works out alright. I'm sorry for my short posts and little to say, but I'm extremely under the weather (this is the first time I've gotten six in over four months). Thank you for all of the advice. According to the blog it sounds like the guy really dislikes BMI. I might look into ascap, but to be honest, I'm not sure, and at the moment, too exhausted to look into it. Thanks again.
  2. Alright. So how does one go about doing such a feat? It sounds extremely difficult. Please help! I'm desperate! :( Thank you so much. PS. I emailed TrevCo (double reed music specialists to see waht they might have to say) and I hope I getr some input on the situation. crosses fingers. :|
  3. Hi guys So I've written this sextet for Oboe, Clarinet in A, Bassoon, Piano, Violin and Cello. it is very much a contemporary piece with lots of sul ponticello-there's a pattern of sul ponticello-one measure is sul pont, the next one isn't, the one after that is, the pattern is essentially measure 1: Sul Pont. 2) Natural 3) Sul Pont. 4) Natural 5) Sul Pont. 6) Natural etc etc. There are tone clusters, tons of weird tremelo's for the bassoon at the end of the piece, polytonal, etc etc. Does anyone know a contemporary publishing company that might be willing to publish the piece? Many thanks
  4. I'm aware that scoring for Harp is ridiculously difficult. Could someone please give me a hand in composing for it? I remember reading about teh foot pedals, the mneumonic to remember their order, and IIRC, they raise the tones a half step, am I right? This would make playing in D# minor very unlikeable yes?
  5. Hehehehehehehehhe it is an optional part that I would love to write into the piece of music. I was inspired by Lucia di Lammermoor where they had an armonica-ist playing in the 3rd act and it was really chilling to hear that ethereal glassy soulless sound. I can't help myself sometimes :-P
  6. Alright, for some reason I can't keep away from weird instruments, but the sound that this instrument emits is very very creepy and I love it. Anyone know what the average written range on one is (so to speak) and sort of things I should be advised against when writing for one? And is it written for one stave or on two? Thanks mates

  8. I've started writing a series of cantos. Now I know the flute, sax, bassoon, oboe and a few others extremely well. However, i don't know anything about clarinet. Can someone please give me a hand in writing subtones on the clarinet? Also, how does one mark a niente attack? many thanks.

  10. I recently heard of this (Frank Zappa) piece and was curious, does anyone know who manages to pull off a decent recording of this piece, or is it like Opus Clavicembalisticum that there are no good recordings? I take that back, I remember I hear good things about John Ogdon's but are there any good recordings of the Black Page? Oh and did that guy manage to make a good transcription for drums?
