  1. Thanks guys; Trumpetman - A very insightful perspective worth thinking about, about the purpose of music. I will definitely take that into consideration in the future, so again, thank you. And no, I'm actually a trombone player - and this was actually originally going to start out as a piece for trombone quintet - but I really liked the sound of the ocarina better basically because the tones are so pure, clean, and identifiable within a chord. So about 1/4 of the way into it I switched it up and started building the sound more around the ocarina than anything else. Dev - the range goes from about a middle C to a high F on the staff. So really, it's very restricting to write for (which I guess is why it's not that popular of an ensemble, heh).
  2. A piece for 5 ocarinas. This piece is really very much out of range for the ocarina, I know, but hey, for now lets just focus on the sounds here =P Thank you shine.MUS
  3. Ah, here it is. Funiculi Funicula.MUS
  4. Neat! Well worth the listen.
  5. This is a trombone quartet arrangement of Funiculi Funicula I did for a quartet that I founded and play in regularly. I come from a small town, about 3600 people. This was first performed (only performed, yet) at an old, log cabin-ish, bar and restaurant way out in the middle of nowhere in Northern Minnesota. It was our city band's end of the year banquet and we usually have a skit or something after supper. So we did this. We got fantastic feedback, even a standing ovation; I was just...floored. lol. So yeah, this is Funiculi, Funicula. MySpace.com - Kyle Taylor - Duluth, Minnesota - Experimental / Jazz / Classical - www.myspace.com/kystetay Well, I didn't have the finale file, so that'll have to do. It's in the playlist at the top.

I agree with the above, the atmosphere is set dramatically in this piece, almost like falling into a deep dark hole and landing underground in a cave-like city or something. Just kind of a dark sceney place where societal rejects retreat to form homes and whatnot. Anyways, I really like it. I do feel this could be expanded on as well.
  7. I do like the initial sounds you used in phat bassy birds, I got the image of this hulking, cranky bird....just from the sound. And I also think the elegant minimalist sounds of the hummingbird was a good choice. The speed of the bird itself is so fast, almost beyond understanding. So I was expecting a lot of quick, erratic, spastic movements of sound....something constantly changing in tempo and dynamics, and a ballet is just hard to imagine in that aspect, it would have to be in fast forward in my mind. But this is just my opinion. Maybe I don't know the true diversity of the word "ballet". I do think the piece is good though. I like the light ominous tones carried in the background, at times, like at 2:26.
