  1. This is a very interesting piece, and I generally enjoyed it. I'm not sure what to say because I don't think I've heard anything quite like this, especially with the color you get from the flute. Maybe slightly Messiaen influenced? It didn't really have any melody you'd be able to sing back to anyone, but that isn't necessary in a piece of music at all. If you can get a recording of the performance in December, I'd love to hear it. This would be very challenging to perform as a group, so you must have some really talented musicians working with you. Overall, I thought it was a good listen. For the 4 note cello chords, are you having him roll them from the bottom up? I'm assuming thats what you wanted, and I think that'll make that section of the music sound much better than this (very good sounding, actually) midi realization. Keep it up.
  2. I think it's good and will sound much better with real instruments. I'm sure the other movements will be good as well. It did sound a bit random in the beginning, but it all came together at the end, so it was fine. I'm interested though, how exactly are you playing the slides on the flute? (I'm assuming you've already recorded this since you have an mp3 ready.)
  3. I thought it was great. The only thing I have to say is that when you get people to perform this, you might want to transpose the single parts for the horns and trumpets, and maybe put the high trombone parts in tenor clef. You might have some angry brass players running after you if you don't. I think overall it works out as a nice arrangement. I'd love to hear it performed.
  4. Well, I'm not sure to tell you about the file, the link works just fine for me. Maybe you don't have windows media player installed? The fermata was actually taken out of the parts I gave to the performers, apparently I forgot to take it out of this version of the score as well. I had an updated one on Finale that I used for my portfolio (manly just to cut down on pages). I'll attach a midi file, but it sounds so much better with real instruments. I won't actually listen to it myself....haha A Minor String Quartet in a minor key.MID
  5. It's definitely something different, which is always nice. I really liked the first melody and how you transferred it to the violin at the end of the first section. That really made a nice color. There are some parts that seem a little strange as far as tone towards the end (especially between the two cellos), but I think it might just be the recording. Overall, I think it's a good piece, and the instrumentation works very nicely.
  6. Yes, thats actually the title. I wrote and recorded this with some friends for my college portfolio. I was influenced to write this by listening to tribal dance-ish music. It's kinda minimalistic, which isn't really my strongest style to write in, but it gives me an opportunity to show off my more percussive/rhythmic side. I hope you enjoy it. 7. Yeah, you're right. I realize now that the bass is pretty off. I think I'm going to re-record the bass on here. I might just do the whole thing over. I'm not really a mandolin player, but I'm the only one anywhere near me that owns one. As for bass, I don't really have an excuse. I guess I was just having a rough day. Thanks for listening though, I'm glad you liked it.
  8. I think it sounds good. A very nice start to something that has the potential to be great. It'll be worth waiting to hear the whole thing.
  9. Here's something different for you. This is a string trio consisting of Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, and an Upright Bass. It's one of my least rhythmic pieces because I was trying to go for atmosphere more than anything. I think the instrumentation works nicely to create the mood I was going for. This isn't my best attempt at a recording, but I had to get it done, and midi sounds don't do it justice at all. My bass pick-up kinda blows, so sorry about the quality of my bass tones. Please tell me what you think of this. I worked hard on writing this one. You can listen to it here: http://media.putfile.com/The-Last-Days-Of-Winter-10 Last Days Of Winter.pdf
  10. Hey, thanks. I was planning on turning it into a larger production, but it'll take me a while to get back to this piece again. It's finished in a sense, but I think it is a good theme to work off of later.
  11. I'm new on here, so I hope I'm doing this right. My first piece I'm posting on here was written about a year ago. I decided to include it as a bit of an extra deal on my college portfolio for University of British Columbia. I'll include a pdf and and mp3 of me playing the piece. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is the first of some very interesting things I would like to share with all the talented people on these forums. You can listen to the mp3 at A Madmans Fantasy - Putfile.com A Madman's Fantasy.pdf
