  1. Is there nobody out there that can lend a hand? The unfinishedness of this piece is beginning to annoy me, lol...
  2. Here's what I hate more than anything... I reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows every couple of months, just to get everything uncluttered and so I can start from scratch. Well, I back up everything and put it on a second hard drive so that I can have everything. I thought I had my sibelius scores folder backed up, but much to my dismay, upon reinstalling windows I found that it was gone. You can imagine how my mother felt as I stormed around the house, throwing things and yelling about it. FOLKS. Double check all of your backups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. Gorgeous piece of music. I love the piano accompianment (sp? I always screw up with that word...) I agree with Cavatina, though, too. The rhythms sometimes seem to get lost or off. It is most apparent around bars 23-30. It seems like you have changed meter, but you remain in 3/4. Even so, it is a beautiful piece and would be worthy of performance.
  4. Do you have it enabled as your MIDI device under Devices and Playback? If you don't, it will not work.
  5. *Sigh* Don't listen to pianobeast, he just enjoys bashing sibelius. Anyways... The solution is quite simple. (If you are doing this on one barline). To make the bass line, look over to your keypad. On the very bottom there should be five tabs labeled 1, 2, 3, 4 and ALL respectively. Click on 2 and enter the bass line. Then, to create a melody line you can go back and click the 1 and you can enter it directly over the 2nd voice. If you want a 3rd or a 4th voice, it's the same thing.

  12. This piece is a rhapsody on a prelude written by my great-great grandfather, W.C. Meeks Sr. He composed about 11 short pieces for the piano in his years... Anyways, I am writing the variations on this theme, and I am totally stuck with the 4th variation. Can anyone help me out here? AABA.MID Motive#4.mid Thanx! :P P.S. Digital Prisms by Larry Clark (I love the middle section at bar 42) Valley Forge March by John Edmonson (Classic kind of march, especially for the low winds) The Great Locomotive Chase by Robert W. Smith (ASCAP) (Lots of fun!) At All-West and Overton Honor bands: Through Courageous Eyes by Brian Balmages (played piano for this one) In a Gentle Rain by Robert W. Smith (ASCAP) (beautiful, played piano for this one with All-West) Chanson by John Kinyon (Out of print, wish I could find a recording!!!) The Ringmaster (Concert March, can't remember the composer) From Sea to Shining Sea (Gorgeous setting of "America" for band, can't remember composer) Distant Voices by Elliot Del Borgo (Interesting kind of modern piece)

  15. This is a good guide for composing for this instrument. It should be noted that in many cases when composing for a saxophone in a piece made for younger groups, that the alto sax usually doubles either the French Horn or sometimes the Clarinets. In many cases, a clarinet can be used in the place of a saxophone, since the timbre and the feel is about the same. Another note: composers, when writing fast sections, try to avoid quick transitions between these notes: B and C Middle D and Middle C# Low B and Low C# Middle Bb and Middle C These combinations are very awkward because of the fingerings.
