  1. Thank you! And yeah, ill definitely take the dynamics more into consideration next time.
  2. thanks for the compliment! Actually in the very beginning there is only 1 violin 1 viola and a flute I can definitely see your point about the dynamics, maybe my mixing could use some work. As for the crowd- in the actual scene Will Smith has a voiceover where he says "this part of my life, this little part- is called happiness." Just as the statement ends, the music builds.
  3. Hey guys, this is my first post in a while. This is a scene I scored from the pursuit of happiness. It's the last scene where Will Smith lands the job he has been trying to get for 6 months. I scored this scene using string orchestra, piano, and celeste. Please let me know what you think. 4. hey tyler, I listened through this piece and I think my main issue with this piece is that it just doesn't sound menacing... the strings do not cut, the drums seem docile, and the mix is low. The ideas you portray in the piece are VERY well done, I think the combination of a soft mix and soft sounding instruments just makes this piece seem more relaxing than tense.
  5. sounds really good the transitions don't sound very fluid in certain areas maybe roll the drums in on the first build up definitely repetitive, but hey- its video game music, its not meant to be too complex.
  6. Hey everybody, about a week back a composer friend and i had a live recording at his house, the musicians(mostly) were students at cal arts. This recording is live and overdubbed with samples. Unforunately youtube ruins the lush quality of the audio but you will get the gist of the comp. There were a few timing and intonation issues but nothing major. Comments greatly appreciated!
  7. Beautiful, the strings at the end make for a fantastic build
  8. jawoodruff- thank you, that means a lot. Sadly just after i composed this and bounced it my external HD crashed and had to be completely wiped so i was never able to get my logic session back to expand on it :/ Frist Clemings - Thats exactly what i was going for. And these are vienna samples but im glad you asked :) that means im doing something right with them. jujimufu- That higher register isnt a toy piano its actually a celesta.
  9. Hey everybody, I thought id upload a snippet of a composition I did for a short film. The track is entitled "Toy Time"- its a playful little composition. Let me know what you think. SoundClick artist: Derek Razo (composer) - page with MP3 music downloads
  10. Thank you guys so much for the comments. To rolifer- I will definitely take your advice.
  11. wow, sounds good. the only thing that i would say is that the strings seem to get overpowered by the percussion and the lines don't pop as much in those sections. Also, some of the sections feel a bit weak (not in terms of melody). In one particular part you had a violin playing a quick paced staccato line alone and i couldn't help but think if there were a bit more orchestration in those parts it would sound much more epic and full. great job.
  12. Im having some live musicians come in to record a piece, and i wanted some advice on where to take it, and also some opinions on the piece itself It's short, only about 50 seconds in so far- the final must be 1:30. Its a simple theme based composition, and some parts still need to be cleaned up but please tell me what you think. thanks in advance for the input. Spring brings rain.sib
  13. Hey there, im relatively new to this forum and i thought i would post one of my semi-recent compositions. Made with vienna samples, please let me know what you think. :D Music page of Derek Razo (composer) - MP3 music page on SoundClick
