  1. Thanks for the information.
  2. Another Question, what if we arranged a solo piano work, could we post the original and the arrangement if we say who the composer is and give credit?
  3. You know, I think this might be the thing I need to start off composing stuff! I've only made minor snippets here and there and it was all only due to short times of sitting at my school's piano's and between each of these sit-downs is usually a very long interval of time. I'll take this on with you! Might stick to the thing you've got going but also might do ensemble work for some special months maybe...just a thought.
  4. You can find a full recording supplied on the composer's website here http://brianbalmages.com/mp3player.htm I played this piece last in my second year of high school, it involves a lot of subdivision of eighth notes for a a majority of the piece being in 6/8 time. Alot of ostenato work and solo work that calls upon voices in the band and the melodies involve rythym work that can stifle people at first, but in the very end this piece is a wonderful and beautiful piece. (Interesting side note: tuba player must be able to play melody in one major spot) To navigate to the recording on the media player click on Symphonic Band and then click on Summer Dances.
  5. I was wondering, what about recordings that are the complete work that are posted upon the composer's website as a recording to listen to? Law befuddles and confuses me and I'm just trying to make sure before I post the link to Brian Balmages' Summer Dances that it's legal and I won't be penalized in any way for it.
  6. I very much so like the Mars movement the best because of the intensity that it gives off, radiating much like a fire and I simply melt at the fanfarish part that the brass have after a long and endless string movement. Jupiter for it's Obvious Reasons (just being awesome for almost everything about it, it is VERY catchy) and finally for the original planets Uranus because I like right at the beginning of the piece (right from the get go) there's an interesting accelerando effect and the after effect that sends chills down my spine. It's like the magician actually casting some sort of arcane art and the menacing effects are being conveyed upon everything in it's path. I know it technically wasn't an original planet from Gustav but I do like the new Pluto that the "gustav specialist" wrote. Since it wasn't originally a part of The Planets I might have a wierd recording but I do like the way they introduce the synthesized-character that leads to a bunch of major chords of the work (not major in theory since)
