  1. I just decided to record some more vocal harmonies and backing vocals to give the tune a little more depth, so let me know what you think of it now! http://parliament.rm2kdatabase.com/rlech/Alluria.mp3
  2. Cool, thank you for the comments! I'm glad that the emotion kind of came through in the song, I was really hoping it would but not over the top if that makes sense. Yeah, I've recorded a couple songs in the studio at http://www.purevolume.com/starcastic . Oh, and as far as writing the melodies and everything (in the PM you sent me) yes, I wrote everything in the song; melody, instrumentals, and lyrics.
  3. I actually use a cheap Logitech computer mic to do my recordings in my basement. I just can't afford anything else. The lyrics do come of a bit cheesy but they really weren't supposed to be. I might as well post them because they're kind of a metaphor. Think Hotel California. I didn't get the idea from that, I just realized that it was similar. Alluria by Robert LeCheminant Welcome to Alluria! Our quaint little town will serve you well. Please, won't you come by and have yourself a drink? What's ours is yours so don't be shy. Why don't you relax and grab a bite? We'll whip you up something nice. Please don't go! We want you to stay! Come and stay in our grand hotel. It won't cost a dime, just come by and stay the night. For the weary traveler it's on the house tonight! What's that? There's blood on your pillowcase? There's nothing to fret. Just lay down your head and sleep. Sweet dreams and good luck to you. Please don't go! We want you to stay! Something isn't right. I want to leave. Something isn't right. I can't breathe. Something isn't right. I can't leave! Sorry boy, but you have made your choice. Thank you so much for the comment! I really appreciate it!
  4. I decided to participate in a little thing going on in the music forum at Gaming World which is basically they're having members contribute to an album that'll be one half pure acoustic (as in no instruments or sounds dealing with electricity with the exception of the recording equipment) and one half electronic (as in no instruments). I decided to contribute to the acoustic side and this is what I came up with.... Alluria It's not even close to as good of quality as my other stuff I posted a while back (http://www.myspace.com/chemmusic), but it was done on a logitech computer mic. It's all I had unfortunately, but I think it's turned out alright regardless. It's all acoustic guitar and voice and nothing else. Feel free to bash, praise, talk like a pirate, etc. Oh yeah, and again, it's all me in the recording. And the guitar solo... I got a little excited so if you think it sounds bad, you're probably right. Let me know what you think!
  5. I just finished playing the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto and I'm working on the Hindemith Trumpet Concerto.
  6. I think a great example of a fantastic player teaching himself is Ben Folds. Yeah, he's not a classical pianist, but he is really really good nonetheless. I would say try to go by following a book, or else you're going to develop bad habits. I taught myself guitar by ear 7 years ago and I think it's starting to kick me in the butt. I notice my wrists start hurting every once in a while, so it can't be a good sign. Learn good habits.
  7. Okay, here's my take as a jazz man myself: There's some really cool stuff, but, dare I say, it lacks enough harmonic structure. The only part that felt a little more coherant to me was when you brought in the kick drum in the drumset and whatever else there was at 1:03 and on. Then I actually started to enjoy it a lot more. My advice would be to make it a little less hectic in the beginning and build to that section because if you listen to jazz songs in a similar style, you'll find they usually build... usually. At 2:02, again, it got a little better. Your sustained chords you land on are great, but in between it's just too busy.... Really, I like what you did, it just needs to be a little more coherant. Great job!
  8. Oh yes!! Bercuse and Finale from the Firebird Suite... how could I forget?!
  9. Fantastic piece of work... I listen to it often.
  10. Thanks for the comments/critiques guys... I really appreciate them! There's a few things I need to re-EQ so it'll bring out some of the parts a little more... there some guitar work going on in those verses where before the vocals come in that you can't really hear, so I'll bring those out. There's also a little inbalance in the intro, where the guitar is hardly audible so once that's brought out it'll make it a little more interesting. I was trying to figure out what kind of vocal line I could put during the bridge, but I haven't come up with anything good enough in my mind yet, so I left it how it was... it almost seems a little boring, so I'll try to find something to spice it up. And yes, the singing is me... it is really cool that people think I have a decent voice because I don't know that I've ever sung in my life before, at least apart from church hymns in the congregation. Thanks! Thank you guys again!
  11. No listeners?
  12. There's always ska but that's hardly jazz-inspired... it is a crowd pleaser though.
  13. And I recorded two songs in 8 1/2 hours. It's the first time I've ever recorded so it took a little while to get used to. Here's my myspace page so you can listen to the songs: http://www.myspace.com/chemmusic The first, Starseeker, is very jazz-inspired and it took the longest time to record. The second, Want, was basically just a simple, catchy little tune I thought would be fun to record. I did the guitars, bass, piano, and vocals and the studio engineer did the drums. They're most definitely not perfect recordings, but I'm happy about them regardless. What do you guys think of the songs?
  14. If you want to hear Electronica at it's best, listen to Radiohead's Kid A... brilliant.
  15. Hahaha, I always thought that Ira was his wife too! wow... Anyway, he is a genius. I love his music, and I don't think I'll ever get sick of it. Not much more to say here.
