  1. I just started playing the cello three years ago and never expected to excel as far as grade 7 now. Of course, I don't own a strad. or a guarneri. I've never thought my cello which is actually a china-made ( most china-made are usually low in price) helped me throughout the years until I've almost earned a place to play in my country's 1st international youth orchestra (MPYO-Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra). I know there are many cellist around the world who would like to share their experiences with others. Why not tell us through this topic?
  2. The oboe d' amore is more mellow in tone compare to the oboe. When I first heard it in Monterverdi's opera 'Orfeo', I thought it was the sound of the horn until my friend told me it was the sound of teh oboe d' amore. if you want to hear the sound of the oboe d' amore, you can listen to the 1st movement of Debussy's Images for orchestra where the oboe d'amore plays a part which is the folk song 'The Keel Row'. Hope you get to know more about this instrument.
  3. Please give me tips on how to compose music or parts for untuned percussions. It can be special effect notations. It can be types of mallets. It can be anything related to untuned percussions. Thanks a lot.
  4. Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Bach is actually quite hard to play.
  5. For me it would be Flight of The Bumble Bee by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ballade in C minor by Chopin.
  6. I learned the piano when I was only at the age of 3+ in JMC in Yamaha Music School but took my first exam in 1998 for practical through ABRSM. Currently, I'm studyin' Grade 7 practical and theory. I'm now currently taking up my second instrument which is the violoncello. I'm doing Grade 6 this year through ABRSM. Till now, I've still couldn't believe that I can go that high within 2 1/2 years and even skip grade 1-4. Thanks to my music teacher who encourages me so that I can quickly take diploma exam within 2-3 years time. Playing the cello is actually quite fun. I must admit why I chose this instrument as a second instrument. It is because while playing concerto or any compostion that is written for it with the orchestra accompaniment, you've just have to seat throughout the whole repertoire and play it, not like most orchestral instruments. Just kidding! :glare: Actually, this instrument to me have actually possess a warm tone which I've actually love to hear it. The cello actually can play music for many types of genre. If anyone of you hear carefully some of Bee Gees older records or songs like To Love Somebody or even Massechusetts, you can actually hear a solo cello being played out. I've always like to turn my cello into a bass guitar or even tried playing it like holding a guitar (just as Luigi Boccherini once instructed the player to do so in one of his compositions) or playing the bass line for some jazz or pop pieces. Tried making a double-reed out of a Mc Donald's straw and blowing through it. Sounded like a fart or something.
  7. For me, well Bach's Cello Suite No.1 in G major. The cello suite by Bach is actually quite hard especially when it comes to the part where I have to change to all kinds of position and add a vibrato while playing a fast part from some of the movements. As for piano, Fugue No.1 from The Well-Tempered Klavier Book I.
  8. Sounds interesting. Actually it sounds terrific. Hope to hear more of your compositions. :glare:
  9. I was just thinking of how to actually write for a pipe organ. Like changing to a different manual(keyboard), sounds of the different types of stops, and the limit that an organ has. If anyone can help, please reply. Needed real help on composing for organ here. :w00t:
  10. As I started listened to the music, I wondered how would it sound like. Later, I couldn't understand what you're trying to tell through your composition. But my ratings for your composition will be 7.5/10. :w00t:
  11. Well, I can understand what you've just compose. In fact, this is one of the nicest I've ever heard in this Experimental, Atonal, or Other forum section. Hope tp hear more of yours in the future. :w00t:
  12. Hello. I'm new here. I've just register last week. I'm from Malaysia. I'd like to introduce to you all my new composition for pipe organ. Hope anyone of you enjoy it. :) Short_Organ_Prelude_No._1.mid
