  1. A while back I got the idea to do a Chopin Medley, this is the basic one, it has grown since and I added a few more bits and pieces since this recording, but you get the idea. Includes bits and pieces from: -Fantasie Impromptu -Minute Waltz -Scherzo No. 1 and Scherzo No. 2 -Nocturne in Eb -Ballade in Gm -Feedback appreciated, thanks! http://www.tyler-johnson.net/ChopinMedley.mp3
  2. Thanks Josh. I've been playing about 13 years, so I would hope I have SOME skills :D I'm really getting into jazz improv lately.
  3. I posted this in the Piano forum, but didn't get much response, maybe it will be appreciated more here :) The piece is called "Geode". It is a short jazz improvisation. Here is the direct link: http://www.tyler-johnson.net/Geode.mp3 It is an iTunes friendly download. Here is the site it came from: http://www.tyler-johnson.net 1. Techniques used/Inspiration/Goal of composition (Is it a study? A piece for children? A romance for a woman? A fantasy?) Hmm, well the techniques I used were improvisation based on a melody I previously wrote. The 30 second intro is just to change up the feel of it so the left hand isn't the same throughout the entire piece. I really didn't have a goal for this one, but now that I listen to it, it kind of sounds like someone exploring a dark cave with a headlamp on finding all kinds of interesting things like rocks (hence the name "Geode"), bones, stuff like that. 2. How long it took to compose the piece? 3 minutes and 16 seconds. 3. Structure of your piece Well, there's a short intro with some jazzy/swanky stuff then it goes into the chromatic stuff in the right hand and syncopation in the left hand. Then improv in the right hand, back to the chromatic and that's it. 4. Obstacles when composing I tried to make a Mono Audio Mixdown on my keyboard, but I didn't have enough space so I had to send it to my computer through my 8 track mixer so I didn't get that "clean" Fantom X-8 sound, it still sounds good, but not Fantom status. 5. Summary of overall piece Well, I like it. I like the sound of it. It has differing styles, like when I go from Ab, to Bb, to C major it gives it that "heroic" feel. But at the same time, I have that Cm7, D, Db, C thing that gives it a kind of mysterious feel. I kept the left hand the same throughout because I like the sound of having differing chords in the right hand over the same note in the left.
  4. It's a good start. It sort of has that "movie scene" sound to me. Measures 22-24 reminded me of Peter Pan for some reason. See if you can make it into an mp3 (if you don't know how i can walk you through it, I have easy instructions) and host it, because it ALWAYS sounds different on the composer's computer than on everyone else's computer.
  5. At an attempt to to post prior topics about my compositions, I have been redirected to rules and guidelines for posting. So here goes... The piece is called "Geode". 6. Thanks for the constructive criticism buddy. That song was recorded at the end of a 6 hour recording session, I was about to take a flamethrower to that piano at that point. I'll record an updated version and post that on my site instead.
  7. I just figured it out. It doesn't work with Firefox. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer to view it. Until I figure out a fix, that's the only way to do it.
  8. Ok, well tell me what's going wrong with the drop down menu. It works fine for me, and a lot of other people who try it. Please explain the problem so I can try and fix it. And there is a small explenation of the songs in the parentheses following the song title.
  9. http://www.tyler-johnson.net In the drop down menu, I added a bunch of classical pieces I recorded a few years ago during high school. Some people were saying that they couldn't get the music to play. The player is in Windows Media Player format, using an mp3 codec. That is all you need. Some of the pieces have a few seconds of silence before the piano kicks in, so if the bar is moving, then the song is playing. Thanks, hope you enjoy!
  10. I must have been updating it, should work fine. I'd rather not upload MIDI's because I don't know any of you, and I can't trust anyone with my work. I've been ripped off before so i'm doing what I can to prevent it from happening again.
  11. Check them out and let me know what you think: http://www.tyler-johnson.net Up at the top, just select the song you want to hear. I want to hear critiques on "Chaos" more than the others, since it's the newest one. Other critiques are fine as well, thanks! -Tyler
  12. Well I appreciate both of your comments. And yes, this was more of a show-off piece rather than an attempt at a structured song. I am thinking of performing improv live, but that's always going to be risky because good improv comes at certain times, not always. Actually some of the best stuff i've written came from improv. Just started with a simple melody, and overtime developed it into an actual piece. Good Call.
