  5. Is YC still selling Sib via its own store?
  6. I can emphatically say 'YES' since the sibelius sounds are very limited. For $100, it is not a bad deal and the new aria engine is much better than the kontakt engine in my opinion. Also, it isn't a terrible sound set to start composing for orchestra either. However, the sound will never be as good as some of the more expensive libraries since I think Garritan compresses the audio thus killing some of the finer nuances of the instruments. Again, for $100, it is pretty damn good (I have it and love it. Listen to my compositions to get a feel of how the library sounds). The steinway piano included in GPO4 isn't too shabby either! I would highly recommend getting it and playing with it. You won't be disappointed, especially if you are learning how to compose!
  7. Hey guys, how goes it? It's been ages since I've last uploaded a composition. The ideas haven't been coming lately (new job totally drains me) and the muses are on extended vacation. I jumped on the piano a day or so ago and just started doing scales warm-ups when this popped it. Granted, it is not a finished product, but hopefully it has the beginnings of a foundation to it. For now I am still working on adding the right hand scales and hopefully transition the melody to the left hand. I've tried hard not to stick too much to the tonic (which is my Achilles' Heel as my previous compositions are rooted to it) so hopefully I've made slight progress in that aspect. Regarding the PDF score, please ignore the bottom dynamics (p, pp, ppp) since Sibelius is retarded and makes the left hand too overbearing. Please let me know what you think, what I can do to improve and some suggestions for the right hand! http://www.box.net/shared/sj0lx16xd0 Scales Etude #1 C Major.pdf
  8. Hey mate, really enjoyed this piece. Liked the dynamics and how the themes meshed well. I pictured Elton John jamming this out a few times especially towards the end. Good stuff :D
  9. Ok, I know I'm crazy, but I just had pictures of whales swimming around and schools of fish dancing through coral reefs and all sorts of other ocean denizens doing their thing. Very peaceful and beautiful. Good stuff mate! :D
  10. Good stuff mate! I liked the strings, definitely had a flying feel to them (please post the score so I can learn how to do it too!!!).
  11. This is awesomeness. It feels like a mix between Harry Potter and Narnia. Definitely transported me to a snowy world. If it sounds this pimp, I can't wait for you to finish !!! :D
  12. I gotta agree with robinjessome. It clashed a bit much for these poor ears and I honestly can't remember one theme. I like how you can make your drums and bass sound, but the rest was kind of ... meh. I like the ideas you got in there, just need a bit more developing to make parts stand out and be more memorable. Keep at it ! :D
  13. I really dig the drums and bass, however I felt that you may have forced a few ideas together that shouldn't have. I really feel the J-Pop influences though. I would probably recommend listening to a couple of J-Pop/anime themes and really figure out what makes it tick and why you like it so much. Then go from there :D
  14. Good stuff mate. Pirates certainly did not pop into my head whilst listening to this. For some strange reason it reminded me of the cool Saturday morning cartoon themes that I always loved to watch (Conan the Adventurer's opening theme is still one of my favs). It kept screaming 'adventure' instead of 'pirates' for me at least. I really liked it though !
  15. Wow, are those real voices or sampled? Sounds pretty good. I don't have the sufficient level to critique very well, so I'll give it a thumbs up for what you have.
