Hello, everyone. My name is Gavin Burt. I am 14 years old, and I live in the state of Washington.
I've studied guitar since August 2003, piano since January 2005, and theory/composition since April 2006.
I've browed this forum, as well as many others, for many months. This is the first time I have posted, however. This is a little composition I wrote for my theory/composition teacher to check out. Perhaps you can critique it too?
A little background on this piece?
1. Techniques used
None that I know of, as I had no formal training in composition at the time of writing this piece. In fact, I still barely know anything about it.
2. How long it took to compose the piece
About five days.
3. Structure of your piece
According to my teacher, the "very beginnings of binary form". Although, once again, I truly do not know what strucutre this is in.
4. Obstacles when composing
To get it to sound right. Because I am not trained much in the art of theory, I spent many a hour at the piano trying to perfect the rhythm and notes to my liking. The consequent was particularly difficult, and has left me rather unhappy.
5. Summary of overall piece
Well, I like it. I guess that's all that matters, but I feel as if there is something more that can be done with it. It feels almost incomplete and rushed. The consequent doesn't quite hold up to the antecedant, and I'd like to make them both of good quality.
SIDENOTE: The first attachment is the MIDI, the second the score of the piece.
