  1. If you can give me a precise definition of 'classical' music then I will tell you if one is inferior to the other. Marcel
  2. The AKG C1000S is a decent batterie powered mic. But as most mic inputs of soundcards are really low quality it may not be important whether the mic you plug into it is any good. Marcel
  3. On a quick first listen and without further analysis I can just say that I like it. But it seems to me that there's enough material in it to develop it further. You have some nice motifs going on that could be modulated and developed. I'd continue to play around with this stuff and see what further ideas can be inspired by what you already have. You won't win the price for the shortest guitar piece anyway because I'm going to post a 0'59'' guitar piece as soon as I find the time to record it. :) Marcel
  4. I'm pretty sure he is this guy. Marcel
  5. My favorite quote on the subject: I think the key is to work on as much music as possible. Take any given melody and work on it. Have a look at your favorite compositions and see how the great composers developed their music. Don't worry about originality at first. Just concentrate on improving your craftsmanship. The more you understand how to develop a motif the better the chances that you will recognize a worthwhile idea when inspiration is eventually coming round the corner. Marcel
  6. I like it a lot. Reminds me a bit of some early Jethro Tull or King Crimson. The part from 0:45 to 1:15 is especially nice but I enjoyed the rest of it, too. I didn't hear a lot of 'dissonant' chords, I'd rather call it agressive. The opening chords could be a bit stronger though, in my opinion they sound too sweet for this kind of piece. You labeled it a prelude and I can imagine this as an introduction to some bigger piece. Standing alone I feel something would be missing. You build up a lot of tension that has to be released later. The sound may not be that great but it's good enough to provide a good idea of what it should sound like. Thanks for posting. Marcel
  7. Notation is all about communication. If you want to communicate your music to other musicians it has proved to be an efficient tool. It has nothing to do with the act of composing itself. So if you just want to create music and perform it yourself you can do without notation. But if you want to communicate with people you better learn their language. It's pretty unreasonable expecting them to learn yours. Besides it is indeed pretty easy to learn. Marcel
