  1. Hello, I'm new here in YC and my first competition. Film music is one of my favourites and should be popular around here so I'm gonna start a competition here. I will try to make it as freeform as possible. If you would like to be a judge, just post a reply. Theme: The theme for this competition is Romance. You will have to create a theme for a love story something like Titanic. For participants: - The piece has to be 3 to 5 minutes long. - You will have to send in a "readable score" and the music file in Midi and Mp3(optional). - The last date of submission is before 1 January 2010. - Has to have at least 4 instruments and must have instruments from more than 1 section(e.g. brass, percussion). - Can be in any style (chamber, concert, orchestra) I hope you guys like the idea. If you have any questions just ask. Good composing or Happy composing (I don't know which one)
  2. Mine would be C Major. I don't think anyone here has the liking for this key but me. There's nothing wrong with liking the simplest key.
  3. Sibelius in default setting uses midi. Midi is a sound programming (language) used but all notation software/keyboards so that they can transfer data to one another(lingua franca). So whether its Finale or Sibelius it will just sound the same unless you use sounds like GPO or VST(realistic sounds that can be used in notation softwares) which requires a lot or RAM.
  4. It was a good idea but most people don't really get the style. You should start something more popular and more "free form". Like making a "majestic theme" for a movie but I think its more to the style. Thats just what I think.
  5. I'm in. Could you shorten the time to 3:00 minutes? 4 is kinda long.
  6. Thanks for your reply. I didn't really like the Murphy version as I think it was a bit over remixed. I'll try to improvise it a bit. I was thinking of using electro beats during the famous intro part and real drums after that.
  7. You should learn some basic music theory. Then you can use a tuner to know what notes you are humming. There are some free once you can download. You just need a mic. For the notation software, if you want a free one use noteworthy composer.
  8. Of course it isn't. Many bands do it.
  9. I just made a rock version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. What do you think of it? Any suggestions to make it as awesome as possible. Its still a draft so its a midi file. Project.mid
