  1. Hi all, Some of you may remember me as a pretty active member a while ago, glad to see this site is still thriving! Anyways, I have returned to try and fetch some of my old compositions, and am having some difficulties getting more than one page of a few pdfs. Keep in mind this was literally over three years ago, and so it might just be issues with the archives on the old site, but I'd really like the entire scores back as I recently lost my computer and was unable to retrieve them. One such example would be this piece: http://archives.youngcomposers.com/profile/music/impresario/composition?entry=37926 Thanks to anyone that can offer a hand! - Jonah (Impresario)
  2. See if you can open (copy+paste into web search) this: file://machd/Applications/Finale%20PrintMusic%202009/Help%20Files/PrintMusic_Left.htm#SkinName=NewWindow Otherwise, search your finale help index for "Template Percussion Mappings" and it will show you where each instrument is in the percussion stave.
  3. This is a great piece! It really makes me feel like I'm near a royal parade or something along the mighty line. I think it could/should be made for an orchestra instead of for strings. The orchestration didn't suit the strings as well as it might brass. Also, the percussion seemed too overpowering - I think I would've enjoyed it more more with less or no percussion. Great melody and rhythm writing!
  4. I forgot Jason as one of the judges, my apologies!
  5. For feature two couldn't you just use the active content page? http://forum.youngcomposers.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=active
  6. THE RESULTS ARE IN! It was a close competition, the top four being within 8 points of each other, but there can only be one winner, and that person is... JimmyJuicin with a score of 178! In second was JijGaat, and third was PhRey. The rest can be left wondering how they did ;P Here's a breakdown of what the judges thought each of you could do better. Peter W. - Great orchestration and drum parts - Not very original, could've been more imaginative - Balance issues with dynamics/instrumentation - Fun and bouncy theme, felt like a sports theme Johnmarinelli - Boring ostinato - Creative with the bird sounds - Terrible sound quality - Nice way of portraying euphoria with a slower song - Might not have been made for this competition (though this didn't affect your score) JeremyL - Very happy and bouncy - Some background parts were too distracting - Flush out your ideas - we'd have loved to see more! SergeOfArniVillage - Amazing song, but not very celebratory at all - Not playable - Great chords and chord progression especially PhRey - The best one as far as euphoricness goes! - Ending was too sudden - Great orchestration (as far as ears can tell) (P.S. what do you mean by you don't know how to read/write music? How did you make this piece) JijGaat - Amazing orchestration - Very nice melodies, one of the favorite pieces - More cinematic than euphoric for some parts JimmyJuicin - The main melody was repeated too much - Very fun to listen to, great euphoricness - Great (although stereotypical) orchestration added to euphoricness Hecklaphone45 - Nice harmonies and orchestration - Fairly neutral euphoricness - Too much going on at times Congratulations to everyone, all the pieces were well done!
  7. Thanks! Jason seems to have got it, but I can't... I got the new one though :]
  8. Sorry Heckle! I forgot about yours, was only looking through the thread my bad! About results, it should be up on sunday or sooner if all goes well. One of our judges has gone away and will be returning to review on thursday. We have two judges (excluding me) who have submitted results so far and it's become a VERY close race for first.
  9. Hey guys, judging starts today, so it should be done by the end of this week. Here's what I have for entries, correct me if I've forgotten anything or have any wrong links. Thanks for the huge participation guys! 10. I keep getting popups when I try to download the score, any chance of putting it on YC, or at least box.net?
  11. ONE MORE DAY! Get your entries in tomorrow or be disqualified!
  12. Hey guys, I got a whole panel of people together and we all decided the winner of the May Competition! By a slight margin, as both pieces were exceptionally well done, the winner is... JASON! Congratulations to both JAWoodruff and SergeofArniVillage, and I will give you guys more in depth results (as in what you did good and bad, comments from members of the panel) upon my return next week. For now I'm off to see a Gustav Holst concert! Also, we decided not to count Anno Domination as it did not follow the requirements enough.
  13. We don't need one but I could add you in if you want. Do you want to be a judge?
