  1. I love these forums... Pieter, you could to play this? It is the best modern piano I've heard. Very well done. The rhythm is very difficult (all 13/8 with 1/16 notes)... yikes!
  2. Love the Weird Al avatar!
  3. I listened to most of this. Nice writing. A Sonata is based around themes and development. Things of course are looser these days. If sections 4,5, and 6 are to go in one movement, put them together and add some transitions. The theme from 4 should reappear in 6 more prominent. If #5 is the development, change keys, add the main them back in there, etc. A lot of potential though. I've been composing this summer and finding repetition is not a bad thing at all; especially if it is good music.
  4. I listened to the Midi. It sounded okay. The organ pdf looked a little difficult, especially that pedal part at measure 60. I play organ and will look at this tomorrow at the instrument. I'm not a virtuoso but always looking for new music :) Do you play the organ? What was this written for?
  5. I was a little concerned by the no-barline/meter things but after looking at the example... I have an idea and should start working on another piece. I lost my last competition. Better luck this time. I use print music as well and the first thing you have to do is setup the document. I'm in.
  6. For comments and/or enjoyment... Deep River is a slow spiritual. After doing "Jericho". I figured I was good for one more. It should be pretty easy to sing and play. BTW, the jericho files have been updated as well. Here is the mp3 for Deep River... http://www.hooblermusic.com/images/stories/audio/comp/deepriver.mp3 and the PDF... http://www.hooblermusic.com/images/stories/audio/comp/deepriver.pdf
  7. I liked the piece. I can see where it would work well. With a real choir, it would have more of a contemporary feel and emotion. It doesn't matter how "rich" or "poor" you are, but how many people you helped or touch in life. An older gentleman I knew past away last week. "A good person will not lead a lonely life.". Why would they? That quote is mine. If you want to get more into the discussion, PM me or put it in the off-topic area.
  8. I agree with most of the other post. Nothing bad about a simple song. If you post any revisions, I'll look forward to trying this piece with my choir (they will like it). We might try it as is.
  9. I liked the piece. Seems a little difficult and dark/slow. I liked the way you did the entrances/phrases. I looked at the score and followed along. I can imagine with real singers, it will sound different! Did you have a choir in mind writing the piece?
  10. I've updated both. It is getting there... :)
  11. Thanks for the comments. I will look incorporate them. I usually have only 10-12 people in my choir and it needs to be pretty easy to learn. Any measure numbers JMisciagno? I know what you are talking about. I'll keep going through it. I'll try to get a live recording (won't be great but if passable...). It'll be in a few weeks.
  12. Thanks for the comments. I'll definitely go back and try to rework that darn middle section :) Is Jimmyjuicin's piece posted here? I was going to listen.
  13. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a note about lyrics to do a choir piece. I've played this piece on piano (the Mark Hayes arrangement) and sung the Rutter version. My choir/congregation couldn't do the Rutter so I made another arrangement. Here is the mp3... http://www.hooblermusic.com/images/stories/audio/comp/jericho.mp3 and the PDF... http://www.hooblermusic.com/images/stories/audio/comp/jericho.pdf I still need to work on the organ part some. I spent about 12 hours straight working on this. I'm going to leave it alone for a day or two. If anyone has comments....
  14. I've been on the site for awhile and won't mind trying to give lessons. What is your level, goals, etc?
