  1. I'll join, should be done by the 13th.
  2. I'm ready to judge the pieces (by the way, if anyone wants to e a judge just let me know), but not all of the pieces have been submitted yet! However I'm going to Florida for the following week, and am unsure as to the likelihood of having internet down there. So, I'll give the competitors a bit more time, but if the pieces aren't here when I get back (June 13) I'll unfortunately have to score without them. I apologize to those who have submitted their files, as this competition shouldn't last this long. P.S. None of this has a hostile intention towards the competitors who haven't submitted their works yet, please dont take it that way :).
  3. Hello, everyone. I'm sorry for being inactive of late, finishing up school, job, singing lessons, etc., have kept me from having the time I'd like to devote to this. I'm back and will judge.
  4. You can find the background stuff online at places like freesound.org. As far as the audio goes, you can go to Midi/Audio in the top bar, then go to Audio --> Import Audio.

This is a rather polished draft of a violin solo I've been working on for the last week. Some advice or criticism would be nice. Also tell me what kind of scene you imagine when listening to this (setting, events, etc.). I want to see if I am able to evoke what I was trying to. Violin Solo
  6. Which version do you have? I have Finale 2009, and with it, I can import audio.
  7. Many pop pieces end up being too close for comfort. I can see why you may wish to change the melody when it comes in, but until then don't worry about it. Most pop pieces follow similar progressions. For example, I was able to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow over your song. If you're uncomfortable with it, change the melody. You don't have to change the chords.
  8. Kind of. You have the track playing, and compose around it, so it's basically the same idea. This will be good for anyone thinking about composing for film, as you compose the music to pick a theme. The goal of this is to paint a picture. But it's unlike the nature cds in that it doesn't need to be calm. You can make the music set during a thunderstorm, and make an epic score. The options are limitless.
  9. Hello! Sorry that this is a day late, but welcome to the May Competition. In keeping with the theme of last month, this month's competition must use an ambiance recording (be sure to give credit to your sources!). You may use any combination of instruments, but the ambiance must be heard. The piece must also be at least 2 minutes long. Judges: 1. MattZ2007 2. 3. 4. 5. Competitors: 1. Bachian 2. 10. Marius, thank you for your comments. If you would like, I do have an updated version in the competition thread without the reverb. I will begin to work more on panning the instruments better from now on as well. Doovongeman, thank you for telling me about that. I didn't hear it before and will try to fix that. I very well might update it a final time, but I really need to finish my piece for my audition to college this week, so it may not be soon.
  11. I'll try to finish my prelude in time. It needs to be postmarked by March 1 right?
  12. AP test isn't that bad. It's nothing overly hard; I got a 4. Plus you get to hear new music. What's better than that?
  13. This is a piece I wrote for the "Game Music" competition. It is meant to loop, so it doesn't have an ending chord. I also didn't put much work into performance instructions since it wouldn't be performed anyway. Criticisms are welcome, as always. Battle
  14. Here's my piece. It took my six hours of work, but that's not too bad considering how it turned out. Here you go. 150 bpm. EDIT: And here's an updated version, without reverb. Battle.mp3 Battle(noreverb).mp3
  15. I'll attempt to compose a few for you.
