  1. I felt that this was a pretty amazing piece - the harmonies worked perfectly and you really emulated the baroque feel :D A little cheesy perhaps, but really, kudos - this is sooo going on my playlist :P
  2. The J: Thanks, I rather liked Bar 39 myself ;) TBH, I just wanted a nice solidly orchestrated piece so I can get into the groove for scoring. Ferk: I know, I considered extending it, but I'm trying to keep this piece under 5 mins, but I'm not sure. Sorry if I sound dim, but which long hold do you mean? More importantly, what exactly are long holds? :P The sfz I suspect was kinda an accident of mixing; I suspect that it came from the mix peaking or something. Glad you liked it - I'm currently working on continuing the piece.
  3. Nice, I really immersed myself into it. I wonder how the mix would sound if you moved the sound a bit closer and more panned out so we could really feel the beat. Some tweaking with the dynamics to achieve more realism would be perfect, but never mind, it doesn't really matter as much for this genre IMO. The ambience was effective, and yeah, sweet!!
  4. Hehe, at Bar 28 it's meant to be a french horn, but for some reason, Sibelius spazzed up with the labelling ... At Bar 33, I mainly doubles the bassoons together so you you actually hear it in the middle of everything else blaring out at the same time, and for the Largo section at Bar 19, I'm kinda surprised you thought it was too longwinded, I'd already shortened (I mean, you should really listen to the Noon Witch by Dvorak, that has a infinitely long section). At the Maetoso, I was trying to get the epic feel ...didn't care much for any movement, and basically wanted it to sound a little like Dvorak's 9th Symphony 4th Movement but with a little less movement, which is why I opted to go virtually full chords. I'm not too sure though, so I might change that... Thanks for the feedback!!
  5. Nice!! ANy chance of elaborating on the video and everything?? I like the use of synths with percussion (reminds me of some 'jamming' I did a while back)...what sound library was it? It's a wonderful relaxing start, really building up an atmosphere. I only wish you experimented with the synths more at the start in terms of intensity, dynamics so to keep the audience's focus. I suppose though it's technically just a chord sequence, it was executed very well, kudos!
  6. Hi guys, Just mainly posting to ask your opinion on the orchestration and structure of this piece. I suspect that it's a bit too fragmented, but I'm not too sure ATM. And also wondering about the effectiveness of the orchestration. I kinda left out a few dynamics, so don't worry about them for now :P P.S. Ignore everything after Bar 47...they're all just ideas left on the drawing board ;) Cheers guys!! Silence de mort.mp3 Silence de mort.pdf
  7. Nice!! I really dig the creepy feel here, in particular how everything carefully builds (I could never do that and resist throwing all the instruments in)...I personally jumped at 2:30 with the first staccato, if you considered beefing that up a little then that'd really make the audience jump. :D I could so see this performed live, the intensity near the end would just spike. I only wish it got going a little earlier - it seemed to wander a little, but ahhh, have no idea. On a side note, is this the final mixed version, or just a placeholder?
  8. Cheers...now that you mention it, the clarinet is a little low down. I've now passed the part on to the horns, which as you say sound a lot better at this register. I must confess that I don't really understand what you mean by 'more stuff happening'. Do you mean more variety in rhythms, or just more notes to form bigger chords?? I personally can't see the problem (but then again, my ears are terrible for recognising this sort of stuff) so any chance of elaborating a little? Many thanks, CheeseLord
  9. I guess yeah, I'm slowly bridging the gap between scoring with Sibelius and scoring with DAWs, and its been a while since I last uploaded. I've finished the first 2 mins that is to form lets say the first 'movement', but I'm not sure... (so ignore everything after bar 33) and mainly, some criticism would be great so I have some idea whether I've completely messed this all up or not. Look forward to hearing your thoughts, CheeseLord Dreams of Life

  12. Just a quick bump...the website domain name changed to this: http://sso.mattiaswestlund.net/ And if you haven't got it already and you're working off GM, GET IT ;)
  13. *cheers* Already dll'd, and it'll be a good chance to mess around with REAPER (I have to really, since LMMS had a fit with loading VSTs). Thanks for the heads up!! :D
  14. Hehe funky like you said!! That beat really works. A few of the instruments were a little synthy (namely, the sax and flute ;) ) but it doesn't really detract with this genre IMHO. What sound library did you use? I echo Black Orpheus in that it sounds great and surprisingly non-repetitive because you kinda pass the lead around, before they all join together, like those songs I always have to sing in choir ;) Cracking stuff, thanks for sharing!
  15. Nice! This is really excellent in terms of ambience - sweet little ambience for the first section that reminds me of Starcraft's Terran themes. That groovy beat is really cool and not too intrusive so it doesn't grate on your ears. And was that steel guitar recorded live?? :D In terms of development, I thought that it'd be really nice if near the end when there was a shift in orchestration into piano it could have developed into a different sort of style - there was the addition of piano, and a slightly different rhythm, but I think the overall timbre didn't alter (may be your aim, I dunno) xD Smashing stuff!!
