  1. Hehe I guess that's why they call it Fruity Loops :). That's the thing, my songs never have looped sections, that's why I never need to use the playlist. I create the whole song structure in one pattern. This is mainly because it's supposed be aimed at an orchestral piece with no loops. I will have a look at some different software, to see if it's any different. By the way, the thing about what I said about wrong chords somewhere, well it seems to have disappeared lol. Another strange thing is that I've just played it back in windows media player and it sounds slower than it did the other night. Maybe it's due to my bad cold though. Thanks very much for your advice ! I was on the verge of giving up altogether.
  2. The samples are soundfonts (.sf2). The only things that I don't think have been added are the FX like reverb to get that really deep feel to the notes. My other stuff sound as flat as a pancake because there are no distance levels between the samples. Other users have produced with FL and FL is perfectly capable for my needs. It's just down to knowledge really. Other software will be the same. I'm really finding this a struggle now because I'm not accepting anything unless it's good, otherwise there's not much point doing this. I've been trying to listen to professional songs and hear the different instrumental layers, but it's really hard to produce my own. Thanks. Just need to know if you have any suggestions to make it sound professional. I think the main thing is I haven't got a clue where to start. I've only got this section that needs work. I probably will leave it to be honest and work on something else. If that turns out good then, I'll have a look at continuing this. Cheers Guys.
  3. I know it's not always the case, but I think in this instance I would say that it's not always the tools that help produce a good song, but the good level of knowledge and understanding. I find creating music extremely difficult and all the best tools in the world won't help me, not even cubase ;). I've looked at cubase and does look like it has the same sort of features as FL and I've also heard some really pro songs with FL too. I don't think that cubase will make my work any better. I mean, thanks for your advice :), but I think the majority is up to my skills. At the moment, I'm really struggling with my song because I've got nothing to work with, my imagination is a very weak point. I don't know if it's just my style of working, but I can never build up a song like the one you've just done, 'waltz for a princess'.
  4. I think it's well perfomed! But it's just that after I hear it I can't remember how the tune goes. It's not very predictive. I mean, it's not really got a distinctive tune and I think that's a very important part in a song as it gives it a factor of memorability. Still, it's a good effort! Good work. I really don't know how you build up a song like that.
  5. It's really good! I love the full sound (something I can never ever achieve with Fruity Loops); how did you do that? What did you produce it with? The recording is superb.
  6. Hi everyone, Was working on a piece of music called 'Just One Step Away' about 6 months ago; made it, wasn't entirely happy, never got finished off. Thought of returning to it to try and add to it and rectify parts etc. Just wanted to post a demo of it to see what you think of it and if it would be worth continuing with it. I'm quite critical of my work and I never know if it's good or bad. It's only other people's views that will help me. It's not the final song, just a piece of the end. Middle of this sample is very empty I understand. The sound could maybe do with remixing and I think there could be some chord problems somewhere, but not sure. I've checked all the instruments and detected no unusual notes/ chords so I don't understand it. Maybe something to do with reverb on one of the instruments. Made with Fruity Loops Studio 5. Enjoy. Please tell me what you think. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you. http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/5/25/35832/Just%20One%20Step%20Away%20Demo.mp3
  7. Hey I just had to listen to this after seeing the quality of your replies :) and I must say that I'm extremely impressed by the complexity of your piece. I can't fault anything at all. The only thing I can heap is praise ;). This is excellent work man. I have never attempted to build up a fastpaced beat like yours and I have my doubts in doing this as good as you. I just don't know how you've done it ;). Any secrets you could tell us would be awesome!
  8. No, it's underneath everyone's username: You have 3. I only have one. Just wondered what they were for and why people have different amounts than others. If you don't know, it's ok. Maybe they put a lot of time into what they do. Personally, I don't see the point of people spending a few hours on one song because they must know that they are not going to achieve professional results. It's not a sufficient amount of time. I spend about 6-8 weeks on one song and for that amount of time, I expect very good results.
  9. Congrats for you for next year :). 5-16 < Compulsory schooling 16+ < College/ Work placement (but I think a lot of people are unemployed or have crappy jobs)/ or if you're me, stay at home doing music and DIY all day long :D. I think it's probably just a combination of raw talent/ experience. Hmm... what else could it be.... yea, it can only be that I guess. I don't believe that anybody can just open a music sequencer and start making masterpieces, unless they have really great visualisation (I try and use this a lot because it can help). I follow a simple, yet effective ruling system where if I can't achieve what I set out to achieve, I question myself. There is always a reason for everything. What one person can do, another person can do. Anything that can be done by another human is not impossible for another. Also, practice does play a role. Without practice, you have no experience. Chin up always . lol you sound like me. I'm usually pessimistic due to my starsign. Btw, sorry about not reviewing 'Tension' yet, just been mad hot busy. It's been a hot and sticky week so far too ;). Hey what are these: ?
  10. lol 4 years shouldn't make that much difference should it? ;). I'm only 18; still a growing lad :w00t:. I think I know what you mean though. It's like if someone my age was doing what you say, 'whipping out masterpieces', it would make me feel as though I have to be able to compete. Maybe you feel like this, maybe you don't; I do though.
  11. Hehe thanks I'll be needing it ;). Yep, that's me; an ugly recent passport photo :). lol only Tozzy could look like that :D.
  12. CK the Fat, Hmm, can't remember what they are exactly. I'm only familiar with the 'piano roll', 'step sequencer' and it's settings for each channel. I don't even export the entire song from FL which I know I should try and do but, the reason why I didn't was because 'MM' has different volume levels during each of the 4 sequences. There are 4 patterns and they use different vulume levels, otherwise distortion will occur in some of the patterns where the volume needs to be decreased. It was tonnes easier for me to export in sections to Audacity and piece together and envelope each section. I took around 2 days to get perfected but it worked and I was very happy with the sound. I must admit, I've not ventured far out of the boundaries that I currently work in. Fruity Loops has many features but, they take time to master. Unfortunately, I'm not a tutorial person where I will spend time studying; I prefer to get my hands dirty with experimentation. Well, if you do decide to use WAVs, buy some from ebay. They are really cheap. I bought myself a 3 cd set with about 20,000 WAV samples in all different categories. Cost me about £15 which was 1 day's lawnmowing (occasional job). Good . I'll try and give 'Tension' a proper review when I get a bit of time. Hey thanks. That's nice to hear. Well, I only bought FL before Christmas and only used for 1 song which is 'MM'. If you would like, I can post the intro to 'Just One Step Away' when I'm satisfied with the quality which should be in about 1-2 weeks. I want it to sound as good as 'MM' but, hopefully better if I can. 'MM' has so many more problems to fix until I am finally satisfied. I am going to fiddle with the settings more inside the channels this time to get more flexible sounds as the channel settings are so versatile. Saiming, Thanks very much for your comments. That was a nice surprise :). Hmm, sorry what do you mean cut into half? :D But yea, I agree with the ending. I think it sounds a bit unexpected so, I will definitely be fixing that up along with all the helpful pointers I've received. I have a full list here just so people know what to expect next time I re-release the track: Criticism For Mystical Motion: At 1:31, where the main instrument goes up three notes instead of two, something doesn't work. The third note clashes with the rest of the ensemble. Remedy: Change notes. At 3:00 or so, when it cuts out just to the drums, it gets a little like "Hum. This is nice. But how much longer is it going to last?" If you added in some very quiet references to the melody contained at 1:36ish, I think that the whole feel of that section would improve. The steady drum could get a little monotonous. Remedy: Change beat to something more varied and prominent. do some crescendo/descrescendo work. Remedy: Increase volume of instruments in various parts for added emphasis. Lusher strings, and more analog at that if possible. Have a slow attack and a long decay. Just a shimmery echo that expands and reinforces the harmonies. Remedy: Play with properties for instrument. Tweak intro. Some instruments sound dumb and weak before the crystal clash is heard. Change left and right stereo switching steel drum in seq 5 (end). Change piano in seq 5; sounds out of tune. This is actually a synth plugin called Fruity Keys. Add timpanis like in demo of seq 3. When all targets met, time for next update to Mystical Motion: Master Version! Stay tuned ;).
  13. Sorry I mean't the horn staccato. I only have the Fruity Edition so the plugins are restricted. I think I only have the basic ones.
  14. Don't forget all the key changes too: Parent Folder: Strings Child File: StringsA1 Child File: StringsA2 Child File: StringsA3 Child File: StringsA4 The files are 1.5MB each = 6MB for all files and that is just one of many instruments. And there is still a lot more instruments than where those strings came from . Nah, it just needs a little more variation. Bring in some extra instruments and build up a more complex melody like your latest submission, Tension. That was a really cool song by the way. Liked it a lot.
  15. Well, I'd describe it more... energetic because it's fast-paced. Problem is it sounds like a MIDI file . It sounds like it needs some real true sounding instruments to make it shine. Well, I'd say it sounds great for an RPG battle theme and this is all it is suited for in my opinion. Couldn't fault anything during the song to be purely honest..
