  1. Well I own neither, but relying on my ears alone, I'd go with LASS. Hollywood Strings sounds great, but like the title suggests, it seeks to capture the large, washy and piercing strings of Hollywood, something that I'm not really looking for. I prefer a more intimate sound which I believe LASS has. LASS also sounds like it gives more space to the mix, meaning that the sound is more focused. Whereas HS is much akin to the strings in their symphonic collection which seems to spread itself over everything else. What would be really ideal is to have both, so when the music swells to climax you could switch to Hollywood Strings for that free, expansive sound, and switch back to LASS for all the parts that need a warmer, more crisp quality.
  2. I love the mystery your song conveys. It's mostly dark but there are glimpses of a brilliant light peaking through, which is a great tactic adds much depth to the emotions in the piece. Very good writing! The only thing I would like to see is for it to be longer and develop more. Also, maybe a broader dynamic range. It feels like it should get really soft around 0:16, to allow that solo to feel isolated. Something to consider.
  3. You deserve to have a big, high paying, project come your way. I love your attention to detail in your music. I've started listening to your entire score you've made, and am really blown away.
  4. Weird, cause on my end the lower end is really strong. I checked it on two computers just to make sure, with and without headphones. :hmmm: Can someone confirm this? It would be much appreciated. The set up is: Violin I (Part A & B), Violin II (Part A & B), Viola (A & B), Cello, Bass.
  5. I don't know where to put this, so I'll just post it in here where I spend most of my time. Testing out my divisi set up.. nothing special, just want some feedback on the mastering and quality. I made somewhat of a personal breakthrough with this. I finally figured out how to "record" parameter adjustments in real time in FL Studio with out the use of an external sound board. It was actually real easy to figure out.. I can't believe I never stumbled on it before. Anyway, it certainly allows me to breath so much more life and expression into the music now. Huray! These are EWQL strings, and one of the Viola tracks are from Kontakt 3.P.S. it gets a little muddy at around :35. Haven't had the chance to fix it yet, cause I had to go to school that day. String Test
  6. You really do some amazing work with soundfonts. I could never get them to sound this good. Others have pointed out that the mix could do with some reworking, but the writing is great nonetheless.
  7. M-Audio Premium Grand Piano It's pretty inexpensive compared to most, but the quality is definitely there. I figured since I use piano a lot, might as well get a good one. Their guitars sound good too, but there are definitely cheaper options. Thanks guys for all the comments! They are very encouraging! I'll be posting the song that's actually going to be used once I get a final mix together, so keep a look out. :P
  8. Wow man, you are a composing machine! :P I actually liked the sudden part at 0:34. It works really well. This sounds like it could be in a Alfred Hitchcock film. ;)
  9. It's just a small video game project, it's not commercial or anything, just a hobby game, because it uses ripped graphics. You can check it out here if you want: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=80774.0 The reason why it was rejected is because it was too upbeat for what he wanted. I knew that though when I was writing it, but this song is what came out at the time. That's okay, because I have a better use for this anyway. :) I'll go back and see about the beginning.. At least this time it's not the whole song. Thanks so much for the comments!
  10. This has a nice sound. It captures what you described perfectly. :) I really don't have much to complain about, I thought it was excellent overall. I'm thinking the strings are a little loud though. They kind of drown out the rest of the instruments when they come in. Other than that, keep it up.
  11. A first draft of a title screen piece for a project I've been working on.. I'm doing it for free, but what I'm looking for is the experience.Anyway, this was rejected, but I thought I'd share it here. :)What I'd like specifically is some feedback on the piano "performance." I got a lot of comments on my last song about how it sounded mechanical so I definitely wanted to step it up for this one.So how did I do? :D Title Music
  12. Oooo, so beautiful! :) The bells kind of remind me of the ones you hear in a harbor. Nice touch! Definitely conjures up the watery element you described. Just a heads up, your first two chords is a very "dangerous" progression to use. Anyone who has ever seen the LOTR movies is going to recognize that instantly. That's not a good thing. Other than that, its very soothing. The choir is a little dry in the mix, I'd add a touch more reverb.
  13. Thanks CheeseLord, I never thought of just using my keyboard as a workhorse for velocity. For some reason I always had it in my mind that I had to actually play the song. :P I definitely adjusted the velocity on each note as I composed it, but obviously it wasn't very realistic. I'll be honest and say that I tend to keep it under half for this particular sample (GPO) because in my opinion it sounds unrealistic above this level. I bet if I actually adjust the volume on each track, I can make it more convincing and still keep the "sweet" sound of the sample. I was also lazy about the tempo, so I need to go back and shape that as well. Thanks for your help guys.
  14. @Nicrion: Sorry for not being clear. This is supposed to play at a pivotal point (for her) in the game where she realizes that the person she loves will never be with her. During this small scene she learns to except this. So yeah, this is her "soft" side peaking through. Musically, the mood of her theme changes dramatically throughout the game. @Marius: I'll see what I can do. Ideally, this will be performed and recorded by the time the game needs the actual music. Right now, my friend and I are just in the story development phase. However, I'm still curious as to how to make a proper mock-up.. I'm still new at this. I myself, don't play piano that good, so I'm not sure how it should sound. :hmmm: Thanks so much for the comments!
  15. Thanks, rolifer, I totally agree with you. It does get a little bland towards the end because of the rhythm. I've always thought this myself, but needed a second opinion, which is why I posted it. Good thing this is only the basis of what it will really be like once I orchestrate it. I plan to go back and adjust the things that you commented on. To give further insight into this song.. I finally found the original picture that inspired this theme, and the character.
