  1. Hey! Thanx for your reply. I think (a little more) conversation between flute and piano would be a great idea. Definately something to think about next time, thanx!
  2. Hi there! This is the second piece I wrote, belonging to the 9 Muses flute/piano compositions. Thalia is the muse of the comedy and idyllic poetry. For this cheerful muse I tried to write a jumpy and slightly mischievous tune. Imagine a figure joking and teasing around a bit. I hope you like it and i'm always willing to take advice! Koen The 9 Muses - Thalia; 'The Joyous'
  3. Thank you for the extensive replies! I think it is a good idea for me to have a look at certain piano accompaniment parts you named and the flute affetuoso part in order to prevent it from being boring. More variation might do the trick  I'll also have a look at the short 'cadenza' and maybe a repeat of the twinkling piano when the morning-theme appears again. I do have a seperate flute part in which I've added breath marks and some slightly different articulations. Does anyone now if I can upload multiple PDF-files in one topic? Thanx again for the tips!! I'm glad you liked it, that means a lot to me! Btw, I've been using Finale 2007 and the garritan personal orchestra as VST'. I have absolutely no experience with sequencing and stuff like that, so it might sound a bit awkward here and there.
  4. Wow, beautiful music! I am stunned by the emotions you're able to put in your music, very inspiring to hear. I love the melody and the soft notes in the beginning. You give silence the opportunity to impress. Keep it up!
  5. Hi everyone! I'm currently trying to write 9 pieces for piano and flute based on the Nine Muses: Greek goddesses of the arts. I finished the first one a couple of days ago: Urania, the muse of heaven. Urania is able to foretell the future by the arrangement of the stars. The piece is structured as a day. It begins with a peaceful morning-theme which ends in a joyful sunny afternoon. After this, the evening begins and one by one stars fill the sky. The evening-theme transforms into a whirling night and eventually leads to a repeat of the soft morning-theme. I hope I will be able to finish the other Muses as well, but let's start with this one. I hope you'll comment, so I can learn from my mistakes :)Thanx!!KoenEdit: seperate flute part uploadedThe 9 Muses - Urania; 'Of Heaven' The 9 Muses - Urania; 'Of Heaven'
  6. Hi everyone, I wrote this piece for a quite unusual pair of instruments: piano and bassoon. The song must figure a mean little goblin who's always irritating everyone. The goblin (called Wistik) was inspired by a character from the fairytale-like book ''De Kleine Johannes'' by the dutch author Frederik Van Eeden. I hope you enjoy!Koen(recording: Edirol) A Mean Goblin
  7. Hey everybody! This time I wrote a short piece with a light melody for flute and piano. I was inspired by the main character of the book ''De Kleine Johannes'' by the dutch author Frederik van Eeden. I tried to catch a peaceful, playful and somewhat childish emotion here. This was my second attempt to write for piano and flute, so I'd really like some tips to make it better :) The piano in the sound file is by Edirol, and I recorded the flute-part by playing it myself. Quality is not perfect however, better take a look at the sheets ;)I hope you like it!Koen Song of a little boy (De Kleine Johannes)
  8. Hey, thanx for the replies! I'm not sure what you mean by ''poppy''... Maybe that it's a bit too cliché or that I'm trying too hard to make it sound ''beautiful'' (by using the arpeggio's and chords..). It's my first time for flute and piano, so it's nice to get some tips . @last life: as for the flute, I do have a seperate flute-part wíth dynamics, I just didn't upload that file . I play the flute myself, and I know that it may sound soft in lower pitches, but I think a good flutist should manage to make it sound powerful enough. However, maybe you're right about the ff-piano, should be mf or f I think. Thanx for the tip!!
  9. This is the first time I wrote something serious for flute and piano. The piece is called ''La Danse des Étoiles'' (dance of the stars), but it's not typically written in a dance-form. Please don't pay too much attention to this, I just felt like giving this name. I hope you enjoy! La Danse des Étoiles
  10. I know there's a lot not right in the sheet music, I didn't really pay attention to that. I only focussed on how it sounded in Finale, not the way I wrote it. This piece could never be performed by an orchestra in this way. I would have to adjust the notation of the music a lot then. Because of this, I rarely upload a piece that I've written on this site, just because it doesn't look right (although it may sound right in my ears). So, I wrote a lot more music than you can see here :P. Thanx for the tips anyway! I think I'll try to make a playable piece next time. I'm sure it would be very good to take a look at notation.
  11. In this overture I tried to catch a joyful, happy feeling. I primarily focussed on the orchestration and melody matching together. Scored and recorded in Finale 2004. Joyful Overture in C major
  12. Wow, this sounds really cool! I like it a lot. It must be so nice to actually let your music be played by real musicians, and not by a computer! Keep up the good work :)
  13. Thank you so much!
  14. This composition describes an evil witch making a potion. In the beginning, she prepares the ingrediënts of the potion and pours them into her cauldron. Then she casts a spell, and the magic begins...Several instruments are used. This music is not ment to be performed by a live orchestra. Witches Potion
  15. Thanks for your reply! Orchestration is something I know not much of. I've never had lessons or something and I only use Finale, my inspiration and my ears :P . But it's good to know I have to work on this. Thanks again, and I will listen to some other pieces on this forum.
