  1. Hello, I want to actually start composing little pieces for media - my plan is to post flyers around my school and hope that someone gives a call. My question is, in the fortunate event that someone does call, what software/hardware is recommended for composing incidental music, other than a sequencer? Especially for orchestral/ensemble pieces - I have recording software for real instruments such as guitar/voice.
  2. I'm pretty sure most noteworthy sequencers (I think that's what you mean by orchestra software, correct me if I'm wrong) require notation-input. My best advice is to learn to write music the old fashioned way/get comfortable with it :)
  3. Hello, I'd like to start learning the various coloristic effects available from instruments other than piano - I've been reading about orchestration/arranging, but I'd like to do some hands-on practice and taking works from established composers and arranging them, from piano solo to ensemble, or ensemble to piano solo. I think this will help me loads in exploring instrumental technique. Problem is, I haven't got much time to go looking for scores to do this with - I work full time and try to get in a couple of hours of practice a day, leaving me only another couple of hours to eat/do chores/etc. So what I ask of you, YC, is this: Can anyone with similar experience help find me a good, relatively simple score to start out with? Whether it's ensemble to piano solo or piano solo to ensemble doesn't matter much; I'd just like to practice arranging and orchestration. If someone else has had experience doing this, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot!
  4. short something i composed over a couple days. clocking in at 40 seconds -.- lazybird
  5. here's my entry.
  6. something I made a month ago after playing FF13. this is what i got from watching Vanille (in the beginning stage of the game at least).sorry for bad quality + lack of score. Vanille
  7. version 7. i'll see what i can work out with it. shows how much i know, hahah
  8. Hey guys, I'm new here. I was wondering if anyone else doesn't know where to start when it comes to programs like Pro Tools/Logic etc, but still makes compositions? I personally just record from my keyboard, onto my keyboard; then I plug a cable from the keyboard into the soundcard and record what I previously recorded (if you can follow all that) onto Sonar Home Studio. I'd like to get started with DAWs and such but I don't have the money right now and if I were to do that, I'd want to be able to connect my keyboard directly into the program instead of clicking little dots for the notes, and I don't know how to do that either. So anyways, I was wondering how many other people just use keyboards and record into a home recording program instead of using a DAW?
