A more appropriate rebuttal to this question should read: "What instrument do you wish you could play WELL?" Ha. I wish I could play jazz piano well (I play, but not well by answer stretch of the imagination). Likewise with some good lead guitar. Hotness.
I very much enjoyed listening to this. It definitely put me in a good mood. There is a certain warmth to your orchestration that just evoked wonderful emotions from me. The meld of the different voices...just right. I can't say anything bad about it. Very nicely done.
I've been running into a similar dilemma...except I'm trying to run Sibelius 6 (which is pretty slow) and Pro Tools 9...my laptop cannot handle the load. As far as laptops go, getting a MacBook is probably your (and my) by shot. Desk tops are a different story...but the power in a MacBook basic is still way more powerful than most PC laptops, MacBook Pro is even better. This just what I've gathered since I recently realized started researching the topic.
Celloman, that's an excellent way to put it. I immediately came to the same realization.
Nightfly, fantastic orchestration. Lovely, beautiful ideas. I like how you experiment with so many chord colors. Quite moving. Thanks for posting this.
The whole thing was just fascinating. I really enjoyed the chord clusters and how tight the melody is to the chords. The style is incredibly consistent throughout. Reminds me of "XAS" for saxophone quartet. Has similar movement and clusters. I enjoyed listen this collection. Can't wait to hear the 4th movement. I do like how the "melody" is passed through all the voices too.
Check out the Amethyst Sax Quartet playing XAS, if you want
I really dig it. Love the effects used. You got rejected for Braveheart? Weak. I'd go with original music any day. Especially one that grooves so well. Sounds like the guitar is kinda like a background voice, but it adds to the eeriness of the tune. Tastefully done.
Reminds me of something off of Star Trek. Just the ambient feel of it all. The piano adds a nice icing to it. The orchestration is nice and smooth and balanced. Nice work.
I can dig it. Nice orchestration for the most part. It seems almost too repetitive at times, but I suppose that's to be expected with film score background. Anywho, I enjoyed it.
