  1. I'll jump in as a participant for this one.

  3. I realized that after I posted it  But either way, I still just don't have the time.
  4. I'm also going to have to back out. I've just been asked to write music for another short film, and that's going to use up all my time with school and marching band and everything else sadly. And I was really looking forward to this one too! But, and this is just my opinion, maybe you should thinking about bringing it back down to smaller scale compositions? With school started, I don't really have time to do a full orchestral piece (or the skill for that matter). The smaller instrumentation helps me personally a lot more.
  5. So I'm working on a piece for orchestra, and there's a part where everybody is playing Forte for about 20 measures. There's a cymbal crash every other measure, and when it hits, I lose about half of the instruments that are playing. This happens again the violas begin playing a counter melody. This has happened to me before when I was writing in FL Studio with Edirol, and all I had to do was raise the limit. So is that the problem? And if so, where is the option to fix it? Thanks!
  6. I'm in!! Elder Scrolls :)
  7. Actually, I'm out. Sorry. I have a lot of music to write this month.
  8. WAIT!!!!!!!! Are you seriously advertising to write in a genre of music in which you have no experience OR prior knowledge? You're going to need a VST library to run within the sequencer, such as EastWest or Kontakt. Those two cost a lot of money, so I would start off with Edirol Orchestral. That's what I use and, if you're really good with your sequencer, you can make it sound pretty snazzy. If you for some reason can't get your hands on a VST library, don't worry. You already have what you need. Live recording may seem pretty weak when compared to an orchestra, but for general "media" uses (which is way too broad a term for anyone to give any useful advice), it should get the job done. Now let's just hope that no one calls...
  9. Composing without inspiration...I should know better by now.

      Me too! It's tough.

  10. Awesome! I was also planning on reading through some Shostakovich and a little Beethoven. Both have some good stringy pieces ;)
  11. Thanks to both of you! A big part of my issue was not knowing the ranges for each instrument, so now I know :happytears: Now I'll have to do some score reading to find out what they all sound like when paired together.
  12. Well thanks to both of the judges, especially Morivou for dealing with our impatience (like a boss, I might add). However, Austenite's piece blew mine out of the water, so you're both wrong :P
  13. HHHHEEELLPPP!!! Alright, so I have decided to write something for a full orchestra. The music is flowing, and ready to be drafted. One problem: I've never written a single note for strings. Sure, I know what they sound like, but as far as notation is concerned, I'm clueless. I need tips, tricks, and orchestration advice on every aspect of the orchestra... But I'll settle for anything at all; I'm desperate!
