  1. I am a high, somewhat light voiced soprano, and even for me, the A-flats hold out for waaayyyyy too long, especially for being piano. Then later there are B-flats. If this is recorded, it might be fine.. lots of stop and go, but for a live performance, it would be really taxing on the voice. It sounds kinda cool, but is very unrealistic.
  2. I like it! I'd love to hear it with a more practiced ensemble.
  3. Wow, this is really great!! So eery and beautiful. My only comments are what was already said about the F#s.. but you've said the score will be fixed so that's not a problem. Also, I like how each part seems to have equal importance for the most part, except at the end, where just now the 1st sings the echo of the opening statement. I think it would sound really cool if they sang that last part in unison. Of course, you might have a specific sound in mind there.. but somehow I felt like the 2nd soprano was missing something at the end. Maybe an echo or unison, idk.
  4. So sorry for the delayed response, I don't log on as often as I should! I can't seem to figure out how to private message anyone... but yes to both counts, and thanks so much for he nice things you've said about the piece and my voice! Maybe you could e-mail me, or pm me, since I can't figure it out :-P I'm not sure if the virtual choir thing is already passed or not!
  5. No worries, very delayed response on my part too! I'll try and work on getting it to you. I'll private message you my e-mail, since it seems we both do not go on here all that often, it could be a faster way to communicate!
  6. I'd like to try! Count me in! Busy busy busy now, but after my senior recital this weekend, I'll probably be aching to get more music going!
  7. This is another song of 8 that my friend and I wrote and recorded. 8. I LOVE it! I say keep going with it as is, it's more interesting to not follow the Bach rules— those were for music of his time. But now composers have free reign, and so I love this usage of the fugue, with a more modern tune. It kinda sounds like a blues melody, but then becomes a fugue.. I LOVE it!! ahh I love fugues!
  9. That's how I felt, too... after the first couple measures, i thought I knew what it would be, but something kept me listening, and I'm glad it did! This was lovely! I like it a lot! I LOVE men's choirs, too, and it's so nice to hear and see music for a men's choir! :D
  10. I was able to upload a single movement piece today.. but still not adding movements to the other. So it is only when i try to add movements to something that I already posted.
  11. This is a song I wrote for a baritone friend of mine.. actually was written a whole step down, but I haven't been able to get a baritone to perform it... so this is the soprano version!Text is from Los Novios by Octavio Paz, though I'm sure if you know choral music enough, you know I took it from A Boy and A Girl by Eric Whitacre. So here we gooooo....!Matt Arnerich, pianoJennifer Thuman, voiceoh also a quick note, I've since changed a couple rhythms.. on the word "grass" in the first 2 instances, the notes are now both quarter notes, instead of 8th, which made for a sorta awkward phrase. Any changes are reflected in the score, but not the recording!Another quick note about the score which I think might come up... For the big piano section in the middle, I would love to be able to put that on 3 staves, so the left hand staff doesn't have to have all the crazy bass then treble shifts, but unfortunately my version of sibelius doesn't do that, or anyway i can't figure out how!Ah! One last thing.. is the score really blurry/pixely for others? I have this problem on my computer, but when I send it to others, it is perfectly clear. But since I uploaded it onto here, it seems to download in the same pixely way it appears (but doesn't print) from my computer!Streched Out On The Grass Streched Out On The Grass
  12. Thanks so much!! The reason that I did keep this so short, or rather.. did not expand it after I wrote it (one random night in a practice room, thinking "wouldn't it sound cool if....", and went from there.. haha), is that there is definitely more length in the other 4 movements I worked on following this. I have been having issues getting them uploaded, so that's why only the Kyrie is up today. I'm gonna try and get those up soon, as well as maybe a score, too! But yes, I agree, a lot of the issues you mentioned are that in my head I did imagine a larger ensemble. Nothing huge.. but this recording is 2 to a part (1 to a part when the parts split in some instances in other movements). I, too, have thought of expanding this one a bit. One thing the composition lacks as a whole was total knowledge of the mass text, common traditions, etc. A lot of times you'll see Kyrie e leison Christe e leison Kyrie e leison so that repeat of the kyrie text could be a way to expand if I chose to. It's hard to expand things once you already have them "complete"! Thanks so much for the feedback !
  13. So I had been having troubles with uploading a file, and it getting stuck just buffering. I asked what was up on the chat, and an administrator helped me out by uploading it for me, which worked great! Now, however, I was uploading a multi movement piece— oddly enough, the first one uploaded just fine, no problems at all. When i try to add another movement, though, it keeps saying I'm logged in as Crypp2009 at the top, and then the upload fails, and a window pops up that says "not logged in". I talked to the same administrator on the chat again who suggested a create a topic about it!
  14. This is one of 8 songs we wrote, recorded and made CDs, and performed in concert. The CD isn't great quality.. (we didn't have much time to master at all, or take more than.. 2-3 takes per person.) , but some of the recordings (which are on youtube) sound better than the cd recording. I'm gonna try and add the others, but I am having some issues uploading files! Right now it's just a group of songs, we are still trying to write more, but it's more difficult, since we live very far away from each other now.
  15. This was my very first composition. Not sure what drove me to write a mass for women's voices, other than the fact that Latin is my favorite language, and Women's choirs are one of my favorite mediums to write for, and to hear!I changed the name when we performed a few movements of it for the student composers concert at my school from Mass for Women's Voices to ...for Treble Vocies, because I had a male friend of mine sing 1st alto (not 2nd, which sits very low [borderline too low? :-P ] for females, go figure.. it's a long story)Kyrie, Gloria, Credo: Performed by the ensemble put together for the student composers concert at my schoolSanctus: not yet performed/recorded :(Agnus Dei: Sung by the student run Women's Choral Ensemble club at my scchoolKyrie Soloists: Soprano—Jennifer Thuman, alto— Megan GraneyI'm hoping to get a big, lovely choir to perform this piece in a nice cathedral one day :D (who has more of a chance to rehearse/correctly learn parts)**Since I'm having trouble uploading all the movements, check out the others on my youtube channel! http://www.youtube.com/user/JennyThuman ** Mass For Treble Voices
