  1. i've got quite a few... Beethoven's Tempest Sonata R. Schumann's Sonata in G minor Rachmaninogg's Sonata no.2 C. Schumann's Sonata in G minor
  2. Manuscript paper and pencil first then transfer them on to Sibelius.
  3. I used both. I was a Finale person until I received the Sibelius software. If you understand the shortcut keys on Sibelius, it'll make life so much easier. I think both are equally good but now I'm use to Sibelius and Sibelius provide more assistance, eg. there's a package for different instruments with explanation of each instruments and samples of their sounds. Those will be rather useful when composing an orchestral music. You can try to download the demo versions of both of them and have a play with them and see which one you prefer.
  4. Since I play the piano, I use it as an assistant, but then it'll be wise to actually understand all the instruments you use in your composition so your composition won't become something impossible to play. Also you should try to listen to different sounds the instruments make. I'm composing a string trio at the moment and obviously composing on a piano wasn't that helpful, it'll only be a guide but I have understand how the string instruments work and what they sound like to actually make it like a string piece.
  5. I prefer papers. I normally compose on papers and once I finish the entire piece than I drop them on computers to keep the file. I think composing on papers will help more than composing on computers.
  6. The piano solo in variation xviii in Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff is not that difficult but yes the piece is marvellous, you should try it. I wish I can play at least one of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos or Saint Saens' Piano Concerto no.2 and some of Beethoven's sonata and chamber music works.
  7. At the moment I'm trying to finish the Beethoven Sonata op2 no.1 and learning Bartok's suite for piano, one of Rameau's suite and Andante and Rondo Capriccio by Mendelssohn. The Bartol's suite and Mendelssohn's are killing me.
  8. It's Shostakovich. Yes his works are amazing but I only really like his symphonies.

    John Cage

I don't really listen to John Cage's music since I don't like this kind of style anyway but would love to try to perform his 4'33".
  10. What about cello concertos? I love them, especially Dvorak's and Elgar's. Amazing works. Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok is another great work but then I don't really know if i count that as a concerto piece or ochestral.
  11. Max Bruch's Gminor Violin Concerto! It's such a great work, especially the first movement.
  12. I wonder why Rachmaninoff gets such a small vote on Chamber Music. He composed the famous Sonata no.2 and the two great piano trios but then I guess other composers on the list are too strong to compete with. I voted Beethoven for chamber anyway. Also Beethoven for symphonies and Rachmaninoff for Concertos
  13. Hey Compclar, do you think you can re-upload the mp3 file. I think the link you posted is expired. Looking forward to hear your composition
  14. 1) Rachmaninoff's 2nd 2) Rachmaninoff's 3rd 3) Mendelssohn's 1st 4) Prokofiev's 2nd Saving the fifth place.
  15. My favourite composers are Beethoven and Rachmaninoff and followed by Bortkiewicz, Glazunov, Taneyev and Elgar.
