I find that composition can happen anytime I'm at a piano, no matter how long I'm at it. But late afternoon seems to be verdant with ideas floating around.

I kind of did the same thing, around 9 or 10 years old, only difference is I can remember about 90% of everything I have written. Can't read music though.
