2nd movement of a pseudosonata for violin and piano
alfredo094 replied to alfredo094's topic in Chamber Music
In my opinion, "little depth" and "musical complexity" don't define what "real" music is. I know there are stuff that is liking in my work, but "not being real music" doesn't help me to fix them in the next one. -

Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean when you say that it lacks "confidence". This is not a concerto, it's a piece loosely based on a sonata form. I have switched the piano and violin. -

You don't have to have a MuseScore account, you just have to click on "play". Anyway, here is the score: -
https://musescore.com/user/12518851/scores/4742266 The first movement is in the other uploaded works (called "Forewarning"). All feedback is appreciated!

Thank you! I dunno if it can be heard through the MIDI but the piano has small parts where it leads, but I'll take your comment into account! I got kinda inspired by Beethoven's 4th violin and piano sonata where he indulges in this game of trading lead roles, but alas, I gave the piano repeating themes to make it all sound more cohesive- Thank you very much! I'll the the resolutions, thank you very much. My classes will precisely be with a tutor in his own study. He's a local composer that recently left the local music university. He charges a lot though (500 pesos an hour, which is around 25 bucks per hour; it may not be too much for U.S.A. people but here that's a lot of money!), so I'll only be visiting him once a month.

Today I bring you a new duet for violin and piano! I'm pretty proud of how this one turned out, I might actually start taking composition classes now. I know this needs some editing work, so beart with me! It's fresh out of the oven. https://musescore.com/user/12518851/scores/3296651

Thank you for your feedback! Most of these are simply notation mistakes but I greatly appreciate them; I was so fed up transcribing this that I didn't notice. I'm not sure with what you mean by "awkward cluster" though. One question, though. I changed into 6/4 thinking to avoid the "two beats divided by 3" (and therefore a minor accent in the fourth time) that goes in 6/8. Was this a wrong call? Sorry if this question is too basic, I'm not versed in composition! P.S. Reminder that this is not actually a waltz; I'm not trying to make music based on a musical form. I just took inspiration from waltzes and went from there.

Finally managed to transcribe this! https://musescore.com/user/12518851/scores/2674751 My original intention was to imitate a valse, but around the middle mark I started abandoning that idea. I know there are some really weird stuff written here, but bear in mind that I composed this piece over three years ago, before I had any intention of transcribing my music at all. Also, some of the stuff I tried to put in the score sound very awkward - mainly change of tempo and grace notes. MuseScore is terrible with grace notes, anything other than an acciaccatura takes up like 2 beats for some reason, so I had to put acciaccaturas to make it sound somewhat audible. There are also some accelerandos, ritardandos, rubatos, etc. that are completely lost in the score and I feel like I have no way to properly put them on paper. Anyway, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Not sure what you mean with "easy way to back where you were". I've fixed some of the stops, deleting some notes entirely.

Not sure what you're talking about (I'm not versed in harmony). I didn't want to do a progression nor build into a ii°. Not sure what you mean by "jumpy" nor with the coherency. Whole notes are there just to fill the gaps at the beggining, I don't want to go all-out at first and that's why I stay at whole notes. While the piece is complete and I don't think I will make any changes to it in the future, if I could understand your feedback (which is greatly appreciated) I would take it in count in my next composition! Hey there, Mark. Thanks for your feedback. I know the MIDI is not doing it any favors but I don't wanna shell out hundreds of bucks for Finale. The piece is supposed to feel soft as to be unsettling at the beggining but a MIDI will never get you that interpretation. I wasn't trying to make cinematic music per se, but if I could I WOULD make a short film with this because I have very clear images on my head on what is going on on each part. This is not my first composition, it's the first one that I actually wrote, but it IS the first one that I've done in over three years (I dropped music for quite a while). Thank you!

This is something I wrote while, well, not being able to sleep some weeks ago - I opened my laptop and just started writing whatever on a score. I completed the thing a couple of days later and I'm pretty pleased for the results; I'm no expert at composing (it's just a hobby for me) but I liked some of the things I did even though I feel that a couple of ideas are under-developed and the structure is kinda weird. https://musescore.com/user/12518851/scores/3051671

I've been composing for some time now (very incidentally, though) and only until recently did I actually start writing my compositions. Here's one of my newer compositions (ironically the first one that I wrote): https://musescore.com/user/12518851/scores/2873606 I wanted to make a horror-sounding piece but maybe I didn't quite hit the mark all the time? I don't know, but I liked the result.
