  1. I composed an Orchestral-ish battle theme and I'm looking for critique on it. Listen to it here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1127019&songID=9994714 battle themewip2.mp3
  2. Thanks for the critique. Any tips on how I can make my melodies more memorable?
  3. I liked it, keep it up.
  4. I've been working on this song for a couple days and I'm looking for critique. I'd best describe as music you might here as the opening to an anime or something. It's not complete, but yeah. http://midishrine.com/midi/38980.mid scratchvolumes.mid
  5. Here's a piece I composed the other day, that I'm looking for critique and suggestions on. It's called Funky Island, it's a mix between funk and island music. Unfortunately, I only have a midi right now for you guys to critique. But yeah, tear it apart :). You can download the midi here... http://midishrine.com/midi/38765.mid
  6. Okay, let me explain. When I'm alone just chilling by myself, music inspiration comes easy. Like I can think of a ton of different jams and all that type of stuff and it's easy to get inspired. However, once I get in the program and all of that stuff, I use Anvil Studio myself, I just can't get inspired. For some reason the musical inspiration I get when I'm alone doesn't come when I'm finally in the program. I think another thing might be is that once I get an idea I'm too lazy to actually transpose all the parts and crap to midi.
  7. This is pretty good. I did start a pretty good MP3 of it, but unfortunately just from the midi I wasn't able to transcribe the lead guitar part. But I might try again when my internet is back up.
  8. Critique would be good, seriously, give me your worst. SoundClick artist: Mike 2008 - page with MP3 music downloads

  10. Upping this, still need critique. I'll add a score later.
  11. I wrote a classical orchestral piece called "Life is too short". I need critique on what's done so far. SoundClick artist: Mike 2008 - page with MP3 music downloads
  12. Don't know what I was really thinking with this one. If anything, it's just a practice piece. But yeah, if I had to describe it, I'd say it's kind of Halloween like by kind of rock like at the same time. And please, if you view the topic, you might as well critique the piece rather than be one of those people who looks at topics and says nothing. Here's the piece... 13. I'm gonna try and audition for Sax in jazz band and I'm wondering about this. Basically, how can you guys tell between a saxophone player who's really good and someone who needs work or just plain sucks? I'd like to know this. Like is it the tone? The technique? The range? I'd really like to know.
  14. I started an orchestral piece called the voyage and I need critique on it. thevoyage.mid
  15. Thanks I'm reading that article right now. But I can't help but wonder... could it be the way I'm blowing into the mouth piece that's stop me from being good? I've noticed most other trumpet players put there lips on the mouthpiece differently and I'm mostly likely not doing it right. All I know is right now, I have trouble even holding a middle C(Which means I can just barely do a low concert Bb scale). But yeah, I'm going to try the things you guys have mentioned. EDIT: Read the thing, really helping me improve overall fast. Followed his advice about playing low notes loud and soft notes quieter and now I can hit middle C's like nothing. One question though, how do you make sure that after practicing and hitting all the whole notes and getting the better tone, that next time you pick up the trumpet your tone won't go back to sucking and NOT being able to hit those notes?
  16. Thanks for the advice guys. I haven't read all of it yet, but I will eventually as I need all the help I can get. I'm going to try it all eventually. But another huge problem of mine, is even if I get an okay tone, I can't tell if what I'm playing is right or not. Like basically I can't tell the difference between a C and a G, the difference between a D or a Bb. Probably because I don't know what an in tune "C" or "G" is suppose to sound like. This often leads me to sound out of tune and leads me to play too low or too high. This is often a reason I'm afraid to play, because I'm afraid I'm not going to be hitting the same notes as the rest of the section.
  17. Well one thing I notice that's different from me a begginer and other trumpet players who've actually played in band before is the tone. I'm unconfident with my tone and am afraid that if I play it won't be loud enough. However, most trumpet players who've played in band before are confident that from the first breath, they can make a good sound. Now I can hit a lot of higher notes and stuff but my tone varies. Like sometimes, I'll have a great tone for a few seconds then lose air. And sometimes my trumpet will sound extremely muffled. And overall, how do you take complete control of the trumpets sound? Like be confident that if you want to play a high C, you can do so without dropping out. And that's another problem of mine, I can't hold notes for sh*t. I've done some research on how to get more air and stuff but I still can't consitantly get a larger sound. My posture is good and my shoulders aren't raised, but apparently I'm still not getting enough air for a large and big sound. I'm asking this because I feel if I actually had a decent tone, I could be a decent trumpet player. Right now, I can hardly hold notes and my tone sucks. I just personally want to be able to have a better tone and hit the notes I want to hit, confidently without it sounding muffled or dropping out.
  18. Yes but when the spelling mistake is pronounced the same, it simply becomes nitpicking.
  19. I don't know, but often I just don't have the inspiration to compose a song or finish it. I can listen to inspirational songs, try to come up with something on my guitar and I might even get an idea. But even if I do get a musical idea, I won't have the inspiration to actually go inside the midi program and compose the idea. So I don't know why, but I'm just musically uninspired to compose. Nothing seems to inspire me to compose a whole song.
  20. I wrote an experimental guitar piece. Basically, rather than using the guitar melodicly, I mute the guitar and use it more rhythmically. It's basically my try at being innovative. SoundClick artist: MikeViper - page with MP3 music downloads
  21. Well ofcourse, but this isn't the Young Grammar forum, so critique the music not my spelling.
  22. I like the riffs thrown around here, but the transitioning between the different parts needs work and the moment seems kind of random. But yeah, I definitely liked the metalish guitar parts thrown around, the transitioning just needs work. Needs more drums too.
  23. Well you got understand what the song is about. Which is ofcourse interracial relationships and stuff like that. Thanks for the comment.
  24. Here's the start of a sort of rockish song I made. There are lyrics but eventually I got tired of attempting to record them with my sh*tty mic. I may add the lyrics after I figure out how to get a less sh*ttier sound from my mic. Here it is... SoundClick artist: MikeViper - page with MP3 music downloads Lyrics: Want you, but I know I'll never date you Your father'd hate you For the people I relate to Why can't I see you? It isn't fair that I can't be true You know I love you And I don't care if we have different roots cause In the end, we're all still humans and I don't care if you're father refuses cause I want you yeah, I love you yeah and even though we're different colors, our love is greater than a thousand others, cause I love you yeah, I want you yeah.
  25. I wrote another rockish like song and I want to know what you guys think about it. Does it suck donkey, is it good? I want your honest opinions on it. I know the guitar and sax are kind of off synch because synching real instruments to soundfonts is freaking difficult. Anyway here it is....
