  1. This score makes me want to cry. It's near impossible to read.
  2. Marius, I got Gilreath's book a couple of days ago. Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation - it is great.
  3. Correct? Maybe. Coherent and readable? Definitely not. You've got mixed voices, 3000 ledger lines, overlapping ties and slurs in different voices, and 2 quarter note rests and a half note rest in measure 4. Wouldn't the effect you are trying to get be better notated by a chord with a fall / gliss / whatever the crap it is called for pianos? Other gripes: you have a rehearsal mark at measure 2. WHY? After that, you have rehearsal marks that are 2 measures away from each other. WHY? You have 2 Trumpet I staves and only 1 horn part. WHY? The whole notation is so sloppy, it's almost impossible to read. WHY? You have no articulations in the winds parts - only percussion. WHY? DON'T WINDS DESERVE ARTICULATIONS TOO? Now, let's move on to the music itself. It doesn't make sense. There are no interesting harmonic progressions, the key changes don't make sense, etc. Arghh... I'm done. I admire your passion and drive. I admire the time you put into this. And, I am no expert. However ... My suggestions: 1) Keep writing as you grow, learn, mature, etc. 2) Learn 3) Mature 4) Grow 5) Study scores from the masters past and present 6) Get a background in music theory and practice. There are many things to be learned from both the writing and performance of music My 2 cents.
  4. the hamster dance
  5. upgrade to a real notation program
  6. A few thoughts: 1) heathen! not that a drumline could fit in too well in this intro anyway :) 2) i love the source material - i hope zelda isnt considered too old 3) i like the arrangement - sets you up well, for what is to come Post more, it'll be interesting to see how you lace the parts together
  7. M-audio ... midi controllers - oxygen or axiom product lines
  8. Yeah, I could use 6. Just a personal choice here. Also, the percussion you heard is no longer in the score. **** is writing the percussion book. Hopefully, I will have an update with the real percussion included, sometime soon. Okay, here we go: Same comments on the percussion - hopefully I can post an update soon. Also, much in the winds has changed already. I appreciate your comments about how you see this playing out on the field. From E to F there will be a percussion feature. The snare stuff is just a place holder for now. I agree. And many of these problems have been addressed. Also, I have been playing around with Playback in Sibelius to get the low brass to come through more. Had to end up running the low brass and mellos through an effects bus to boost the volume. I will look at putting the low brass in octaves towards the end. That's a good idea - at least in baritones and sousaphones. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. Look for an update soon (maybe in the next week). I would love to have you give it another listen to comment on the recent changes. Thanks!
  9. you're only 16 --- take a chill pill. you're still a kid. based on your lack of experience, it may turn out that this is not even what you want to do with your life - dont limit your options. I work as an engineer, but music is a hobby... I still get to enjoy it but don't have to stress about making it pay the bills.
  10. UPDATED LINKS ON ORIGINAL POST ABOVE.... 11.29.2008
  11. I need to see a score, Why can't you post it?
  12. how can they get off selling finale notepad? its junk. give me a break.
  13. finale notepad
  14. I give up. I said that they could try Sibelius instead of Finale (since it is giving so many problems, as evidence by the first page of this thread AND almost every thread in this category of the forum). Someone said "yes, but Sibelius has problems too." I said that that has not been my experience. That's all. There's nothing to argue about.
  15. Well... I've used it for 6 years and never had a problem with it. That's all I'm saying.
  16. Or... just switch to Sibelius... :)
  17. Ha ha... well if I had EWQLSO I would... But I don't, yet. If and when I do, I will try this out in Sibelius. However, I will probably revert to sequencing.
  18. so this is to be able to use your copy of EWQLSO within Sibelius?
  19. Thanks Marius ... I think I will fork out the extra money. I think its only like $50- $75 difference anyway. What does after-touch do exactly? How does it work? What's an example of how a specific sound, say a trumpet, would sound different with and w/o after touch?
  20. Thanks for that ... Proof? Also, I'm talking about MIDI controllers here. There's not much to suck at. It just sends data. SIDENOTE: I own an M-Audio stage piano and I love it. Peace
  21. Hey all you techie musical types. I want to get a small midi controller to use to input notes into Sibelius and also to play in real-time into a sequencer (such as reaper, cubase or sonar). I'm trying to decide between M-Audio's Oxygen 8 v2 and the Axiom 25. The only difference that is important to me is the fact that the Axiom has after-touch and the oxygen does not (PLus, the price difference). Do you use after-touch when sequencing? Is it something that can be added in the sequencer through a control envelope (like velocity can, for example)? To create realistic mock-ups, is after-touch a neccessity? Thanks...
