jacob Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I must say, the whole thing looks quite spiffy. And only for $3? Wow. I'd like to look at the organization of all of this in light of the YCC board. "Composition Forums." Yeah. That looks good. The feedback/advice is one great thing that we were never able to do that well with YCC. So I hope it happens here. I regommend changing "Technological Forums" to "Technical Forums" so that it could include technical aspects of composing - theory, counterpoint, orchestration, etc. That's about all I can think of. Mike Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 That's a good suggestion there. I created a Technical forum under composition, as the Technological forums are supposed to be to do with technology and computing, not composing specifically. $3 was indeed extremely reasonable. It's a one time fee, with no monthly or yearly costs. The only problems I can see are that the server is fairly slow compared to most, and there was also some downtime yesterday. But to get web hosting with professional features such as PHP and MySQL (both required by Invision Power Board) for such a cheap price is, quite frankly, amazing. I thought I'd have to pay for the board software again but this was my mistake. Turns out the licence is unlimited! It's still just me and you for now, though. :( Hopefully people will join up and we can get this place properly launched. Quote
aerlinndan Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 I think the categorization of this board is its weak point right now. As this is a composers' board, we need a separate board for music theory, apart from a board for software and Finale and Sibelius questions. We also need a separate board perhaps called the Performers' Board, where people can post recordings of themselves. Maybe this last suggestion can come later on, but the idea I think is that we do not want to limit ourselves too much. Young Composers' forum, yes, but a well-rounded musician is a very good thing. Mike Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 Done and done. My descriptions of the new forums sound a bit weak though. If anybody can come up with better ones then don't hesitate to speak up. Quote
aerlinndan Posted May 23, 2005 Posted May 23, 2005 Maybe I'm being too picky... But I think that only one board for music theory is required at this point. You don't want to fragment up the boards too much with as few members as we have so far. Perhaps a description that looks something like: Music Theory Discuss matters related to the theory and history of music here. And condense the performance boards into one performance board. Your descriptions are weak because the boards are far too specific. Performance Discuss the performance and playing of music here. This board could also be eventually used for composers to ask questions to performers about what can and cannot be done with a certain instrument. Other suggestion: We don't need separate News and Announcement boards. I suggest moving the one thread I made into the Announcements board and delete completely the News board. In short, I think the fewer boards, the better, at this point. But we still want to cover everything. Quote
spc1st Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 If it gets popular enough here, it might even be nice to have a seperate board to host all the composition contests/games/etc. Quote

Mike Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Chopin should be able to fix us up with a chat room once we're onto his server. Quote
Marisa Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 Yeah. Where're we going to hold our weddings otherwise? Hehe. Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 Why, in the new non-denominational chapel, of course! :) Kidding... Quote
J. Lee Graham Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 Chris dearest, non-denominational means... Aw, you set me up again, you weenie. And I almost fell for it. Quote
