TheMagicFlute Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 My flute teacher wants me to compose for my flute choir but I dont know exactly how to approach it since I am used to writing for bands. I dont want to make the peice to difficult because there are people in there that aren't as proficient at playing the flute as me but I dont want to make it too easy either where it gets boring to play it... Daniel Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 Well what is this flute choir comprised of? Bass, alto, piccolo? As well as normal flutes, which I'm assuming will be present. Quote
James H. Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 As long as you keep it in a simple key, there should be no problem. I'm thinking D minor, A minor, C major, F major, E minor, G major. If you stay in a simple key signature and don't go to the extremes in range, you should be good. Also keep in mind that its harder to play high on an alto, and that the basses and contrabasses (if you have any) need a heck of a lot more air in their middle range than a soprano does. If you want your music to sound difficult and interesting without overtaxing anyone, I would suggest weeding of the strong members and weak members. Write flute 1 to be rather sophisticated, but flute 2 to be a little simpler. Find out how strong of players the altos, basses, and contrabasses are, and write their parts accordingly. Does that help any? Quote
