Guest Anders Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 He was banned because he was an asshole, and violated our rules many times. :P Actually, I believe that is why he was so well liked. ;) Quote
Berlioz Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I believe that much of my interest in music is actually based on a mathematical or intellectual level more so than an emotional level. How weird... I write entirely to show an emotion, or a description of a scene. Quote
Abracadabra Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 How weird... I write entirely to show an emotion, or a description of a scene. I've been a physicist and mathematician all my life. I'm used to people calling me "weird" Quote
Ravels Radical Rivalry Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Why can you not do both and still get the desired results? Why can you not use the traditional technique and theory to help structure your composition, but at the same time mold the composition is a way that showcases the emotion that you want to bring out in your piece? I don't see any reason why not. Quote
Dirk Gently Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 I write because I must write ....reason has nothing to do with it, really ;). er, anyway, learning theory and counterpoint and studying good music will give you tools for composing, nothing else (ah, except inspiration for your own works, for that last one). The better you are at using these tools, the easier a time you'll have getting what you want on paper, and then if it's good enough, in the air (sound ;))! If you just go on emotions, you'll find you'll be striving for something but just can't reach it. In any case, learn, don't be lazy. Listen to Qccowboy, he's got a lot of good stuff to say, and the experience to back it up. Quote
