songbird0984 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Have any of you ever considered entering songwriting competitions that have instrumental categories? I got an email from the 2007 International Songwriting Competition, and I didn't think that it applied to me until I saw that they do have an instrumental category. It's worth a shot, right? The grand prize is almost too tempting to pass up. Quote
Abracadabra Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Unless there's an entry fee you have nothing to lose right? It's definitely worth a shot (depending on the entry fee of course). But usually they aren't that costly. I saw an International competition for a piano-cello solo. The deadline for entries is March 2008. I'm a raw beginner just starting out in composing and I'm sure everyone would say I'm nuts to try to write for an International competition that will no doubt feature material from very professional and experience composers. But hey, you never know what the judges will like. A while back there was International art contest where the winning picture turned out to be a finger-painting by a child in kindergarten. Her parents submitted it just for fun and it won! So you never know!!!! I think that was a bit of an embarrassment for the art community though. Quote

I agree some of the best things in life are the simpliest.... which leads to my point... if the entry fee isn't aweful you should enter... write a song that showcases your strengths... and don't worry about it... have fun with it =] Quote
