Suggestions for new collaborative projects

Suggest new projects here! We can easily have multiple projects running simultaneously, so don't be hesitant.

Everything from collaborative sonatas, video game arrangement projects... etc.

In the Musical Games forum, somebody suggested the idea of having a group write a piece, where each person writes a specific part, and only that part. If the host says, let's write a string quartet, everybody writes their own part to it, one person writes 1st violin, another writes 2nd, another writes the 'cello part, and so on. I think it's a great idea, but unfortunately I won't be able to partake in such an activity until furthur notice.

Musicman, you are so enigmatic.

I do like that idea, however, but I think it would be neat to write a piano piece, each person taking turns writing 1-3 measures, and then we could orchestrate it for the instrument that we are most comfortable with.

Hihi *giggles like a girl* ()

My idea :P

Haven't those type of things collapsed rather quickly every time we've tried them?

How about someone comes up with a theme, and then different people write a variation, and then stick them all together for one long theme and variations? Then the variations would be awesomely different from one another due to the massive differences in style

Or even someone posts a theme and then we have a competition to choose the five best variaitons or something, you know people always work better when it's a competition  We'd have to choose a standard ensemble though.

I actually prefer when each group has different themes, simply because of the difference  And don't you find it a bit more challenging when it is a group not oneself, then you have to keep in mind that there are other teammates and that could make it a bit more interesting.

another idea: writting a mass (a requiem for example), so every participant will choose one part.

Ugh. Why are we sticking to such traditional frameworks again?

The collaborative piece thing hasn't worked well in the past, I don't see why we'd keep beating a dead horse. The variations idea has the potential to work well, so I'd keep that one in mind.

On my own side of things, I'd like to suggest a few more projects to be undertaken by the enterprising incidentalists of the forum. We now have the Final Fantasy I piano solo arrangement project going on, and that's going to turn out wonderfully, but I'd like to see some similar projects for other, less well known games with good music.

Here are a few suggestions of my own:

-Golden Sun (and its sequel)

-Banjo Kazooie (sequel too)

-CASTLEVANIA (we really do need to get some decent arrangements of some of these themes...perhaps even from a more recent entry in the series like Dawn of Sorrow - excellent music.)

-the Fire Emblem series

-any Kirby game, but especially Nightmare in Dreamland

-Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, or Partners in Time

-Mega Man!

-Pokemon series

-Rayman series

Anyhow, you get the point. I'll add more.

Ok Marius, you with your games and me with my mass, dedicated to te Latin American victims of dictatorships we had here. I'm not even christian, nor traditionalist, I just want a new look for a mass. But just don't know, you all seem to be throwing ideas without a real wish, just to fill out this thread. I hope I'm wrong.

No, you're right; we're basically just filling up this thread. Putting together ideas and discussing their validity. It's called brainstorming, you should try it.

The mass would be a good idea, but considering how personal your motivation is, I doubt it's a project that would really lend itself to collaborative work.

This is not about going solo, it is teamplay ma-man.

It doesn't have to be a mass with those reasons necessarily, I just proved you how urgent a mass can be in relation to music for games. Open your eyes to the third world!

Of course, Mitchell has a hint of a good idea. Have people expand on the Zelda music. I mean, arrangements are about as abundant as oxygen, but I'm not sure that maybe people have taken the music and actaully expanded on it like we're doing for the FFI project right now.

Band, in my opinion, is a bad idea. As much fun it would be, not as maybe people can write for band, or even like band. It would be nice to see something done with band, though.

As for the mass idea, I'm not sure I would be confident enough to participate in something like that. Not to say it isn't a great idea.

Variations dammit!

I was thinking what about using the melody of Jerusalem?

:)

WHY?! I can't STAND Jerusalem.

Marius has some great ideas.

:happy::laugh::laugh:

You have no idea how long and hard I laughed when I read that. Not out of hatred or ignorance, just at the fact that someone would have their own COMPLETELY RANDOM AND OUT OF CONTEXT little activism rant on a music forum. And because I imagined a drunk Latin American being dragged out of a shopping mall by annoyed police officers.
