Mark Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Arrangement/composition based on national anthems sounds like a smashing idea, and one I would like to take part in. :D Quote
rob1984 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 As a flautist, I'd be up for doing a wind quintet composition with a few others. Quote
Spectrums Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Percussion quartet... that's juicy :) I'd work on that... Quote
James H. Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 So would I.... concentration in marimba here. ;) Maybe just percussion ensemble in general? It looks like that, or a wind quintet... How about.... Bells Vibes Xylo Marimba Timpani Snare and bass Tenors and cymbals Auxiliary How would we do it? Quote
Spectrums Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I can write the battery parts if ye'd like. It also helps I lead a battery section :) Quote
virtualshock Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 So would I.... concentration in marimba here. Maybe just percussion ensemble in general? It looks like that, or a wind quintet... Spectrums Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 That sounds good. We now need to pick a theme. Quote
James H. Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Ahem.... NOT Caribbean.... even if we include a steel drum part. Anybody listen to DCI? Quote
Spectrums Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Yeah, I've heard a couple DCI shows. The only thing that I'd recommend against from this year is the horse themed show... Quote
pricewalden Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I love DCI! And I love percussion ensembles! Especially mallet parts! Count me in for sure! Quote
Spectrums Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 So we've got 2 mallet composers and a battery arranger... Still need a theme. Quote
pricewalden Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Who wants to come up with the theme? Quote
Alan Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Well, Here it is! I actually kind of like it... I'll love to see what you guys do with it! Theme.mid Quote
pricewalden Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 If you guys don't mind. I took the liberty of putting down a few lines. There is only pit parts right now. Hope you like it. I took the theme and put it in a minor key. And it is written in double time of the original. Collaborative Percussion Ensemble.MUS Collaborative Percussion Ensemble.MID Quote
Alan Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Sweet! I like what you did with it! By all means, get the second guy to work! ... Then again, can you make the melody louder? I would like to hear the melody instead of the timpani... But you can do whatever. Quote
pricewalden Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 yeah definitely. this was just a first cut. im glad you like it. Quote
James H. Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 We can work with that theme. I think we should write for indoor percussion ensemble. For those not familiar with this genre, think of marching band and drum corps. Indoor percussion ensembles feature a full batterie (drumline) and front ensemble (pit). The drumline actually marches, performing more intricate forms and motions then they normally would in marching band or drum corps, since here they are the main visual focus in place of marching wind instrumentalists. Indoor percussion ensemble - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Here is an example of indoor percussion, sometimes called percussion theatre: (I know they're practicing outdoors :P (Actually indoors, this one is more interesting in my opinion)Those are two shows by Music City Mysitique (Indoor Percussion Ensemble) Even if you're familiar with the genre, listen to those, get this stuff in your mind. Is this what we want to do? This would add a snare line, tenor line, 5 tuned bass drums, and 4 to 6 tuned marching cymbals. We could come up with something really cool if we put our minds to it. Everybody up to it? Alright, how many people? If enough, we'll start a thread for this. P.S. I'm good in batterie, too, don't worry. ;) Quote
pricewalden Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I love indoor percussion ensembles! Count me in! And can we work with what I already have started? Quote
Alan Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I would join, but I know squat about writing for a percussion ensemble... Quote
James H. Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 If you want to join and do it, we can help. ;) You really don't have to know that much, as long as you can write okay music, I think you should be fine. Quote
