arnevr Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hello, I want to learn something about celtic music. Which instruments are often used and how to use those instruments (single notes/chords etc.) Who knows where I can find some more information about this? Or is there anyone who would like to help me with this? Greetings Quote
James H. Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/celtic-music-10726.html Think fiddle, fife, bagpipes, guitar, and you got it. Quote
Abracadabra Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I was thinking about getting a set of bagpipes. From what I've read thus far they are one of the most difficult instruments to learn to play properly. In fact, that say that no one actually starts right off on the bagpipes but instead they begin with a chanter. So then I thought I might just buy a chanter and play around with that for a while. I also read where the chanter's themselves are considered to be instruments in their own right. That's a bit of an aside for the topic. I learned to play Danny Boy on the flute the other day, and that lead me to thinking about bagpipes. Fortunately the flute is much eaiser to play! Quote
James H. Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Yeah, a practice chanter is just the chanter part of the bagpipes. No drones, no bag. You supply the air directly. Little different from an actual set of real pipes, but great for practicing fingerings for tunes. Quote
oboeducky Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 In orchestral instruments, most people use strings/bassoon/tuba as drone, and flute/oboe/violin as melody. Of course, it's all up to you. Quote
