We are proud to announce the introduction of a music management system!

http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/index.php?act=mlite

This add-on will allow members to upload compositions onto the site without having to use the forums system. There is support for ratings, comments, and much more.

Every new file submitted to the system currently has to be approved by a moderator. This may be changed in future, but for now you should be aware that any files you upload won't be accessible immediately.

It's still in a semi testing phase (having been previously tested by moderators) so if you notice any problems or have any suggestions, post them in this thread.

I think people would be a little more open to this new system if the files on the forum were transferred to there. This way we sort of have to do that and it might take some time to get off the ground. Just a thought.

It isn't a necessity to transfer files currently on the forum to the MMS, and it's also not possible (at least, without the addition of some extra mod or script). I admit it's kind of weird having the ability to upload files to both the forum and the MMS, but I believe we're going to do something about that at some point.

I just noticed that there is currently a piano sonata pending moderator approval. That brings up an important issue regarding the music management system: can it be modified to handle a multi-movement work as a single post with more than one file attached? If the system really becomes popular, then a large number of multi-movement pieces could end up cluttering up the place pretty badly. I would highly recommend looking into that bit of programming before we start getting a flood of multi-movement pieces being posted as separate movements.

I just wished that a full piece (all movements) could be submitted at once, not in different posts. I get the feeling that somehow they will be split up, etc. if they are submitted separately. Furthermore, for people like myself who have web sites with pages for each piece, I don't see why we couldn't just submit a link to that page rather than to an mp3. That would solve all the problems.

We are most likely dropping this system in favour of something else so your concerns may not be an issue before long. They will certainly be kept in mind though.
