HymnSpace Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I have been asked what I would charge to have 2 of my pieces used in a show which will tour for 11 shows in the UK. I have no idea what I should be charging for this, as it will be recorded music of mine. If anyone has any ideas then that would be great! Quote
nikolas Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 God... don't really know about that mate... I've no idea whatsoever about rates on dance. Things you could consider: 1. Is ita major company, or a small indie one? The bigger the more money 2. The shows are where? Some small town village, somewhere, or London, London, Manchester, etc? 3. How long are the pieces? 4. something to be careful: If the pieces have been recorded by someone else (for example a string orchestra), I'm not sure that you actually have full copyirghts over the recording! Imagine this scenario: you're a pianist and play a small piece for a friend. After that you forget about it and later on, you find out that it's been used to a movie by Spielberg (for example). YOUR playing. YOUR recording. This is... rather illegal and could get you to trouble. As far as the actually fees are conserned... :-/ I have absolutely no idea, but keeping in mind that you could go for up to 5% (if not less) of the whole budget, maybe this could give you an idea. Try to find information about: * how big is the show? 2 man show? or a west end one? * what is the budget? Money flow in every direction in these cases. Lights, make up, dresses, whatever. If the whole ammount they will spend up front is something like Quote
