EldKatt Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I think it has to do with a big mixup with french spellings of russian names. Stravinsky is supposed to be Strawinsky. There are others... I believe Tchaikovsky is actually supposed to be spelled with a CH at the beginning instead of a Tch. It's supposed to be spelled in Cyrillic. And there are different transliteration schemes, each as correct as the other, but usually of varying acceptance in different countries. In Sweden we traditionally write Tjajkovskij (and would write Stravinskij if it weren't for the fact that he himself used the traditional anglophone Stravinsky). I wouldn't write it like that here, but I would on a Swedish forum. Quote
Guest QcCowboy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 What's with the insistence on spelling his name "Strawinsky"? I've never seen it spelled that way. and I spell it Strawinski, not with a "y". because that's the way we write it here. Quote
