J Palarino Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I am curious to find out how any of you/many of you? get your pieces performed? From large scale orchestral pieces to quartets and so-on. What do you use? Where do you go? etc. Perhaps there is a thread in the archive and I just couldn`t find it. Quote
Camilla Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Well I've written 6 compositions in total and have had four of them performed. One for a large ensemble, two for a quintet and one is a duet. Quote
Camilla Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Sorry, my bad. For the duet, a friend and I played it. For one of the quintets, me and some friends played it. For the other quintet and the large ensemble piece: I was accepted into workshops in which your work was performed. Sorry again for the misunderstanding! :) Quote
kievins Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Start small. Get some friends to learn them and see if you can find a concert to steal and perform in. I don't know about orchestral pieces, sorry, maybe you can find a local, small orchestra ([sarcasm] lots of them around [/sarcasm]), and see if they would be willing...? Just get some friends to learn it (if it was my brother, he would always be getting me to learn them). Or ask if you can play in pubs and cafes and the like. That would advance work. Quote
Tumababa Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 Most major orchestras have a reading session they do where they accept submissions from actual-live-real composers. Once you are armed with a recording of the piece(And if it's not too challenging) you could approach some community orchestras. Smaller pieces are easier to get performed for obvious reasons. Quote
Lord Skye Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 I've had one piece performed, and it was by the school jazz ensemble, so if you're not in one of those and have a wonderfully supportive director, I can't help you. Quote
