Mitchell Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Okay, so for school, I need to become decent at improvising a jazz sax solo in about two weeks. How would you go about doing this? I am looking for as much jazz solos as I can and I'm getting a bit of help from my band teacher, but so far, I'm terrible. What can you suggest for me to do within the next two weeks (ordering books online is out of the question.) to become good at improv? Quote

Listen/transcribe - find a hip solo on the (or a similar) tune and lift it from the record. Buy/beg/borrow/steal the appropriate Aebersold (shoot me a PM for help with this, if necessary) Keep it simple - you probably hear some happening scraggy, but the facility on the horn probably can't keep up, rein it in a bit. ...
