Chaski Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Does anyone know where you can download sheet music? Is there any where that you can download it for free? :D There are lots of scores that I wouldn't mind having a copy of, but I cant afford the price's that are charged for some of them... Quote
robinjessome Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 University libraries often have thousands of free scores, already downloaded, pre-printed and bound in handy book-form!! :w00t: :whistling: Quote
Chaski Posted December 16, 2007 Author Posted December 16, 2007 High school student. UK public transport isn't great, and the closest university is around 2 hours away. My local library is pathetic, there is no chance of having any score in there. Is there no free resource available online? Quote
Gardener Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 There's quite a bit here: The Mutopia Project There's also a really tiny amount on Main Page - Gutenberg Both are, to my knowledge, completely legal. The problem is that the only sheet music that is free of copyright is the one that is specifically typeset for a free library. The compositions are copyright-free after a certain time after the composer's death (70 years in Europe I think, I don't know about the US), but the editions of the publishers are still copyrighted, so you can't just scan them and distribute them for free. Saiming Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 There was IMSLP :( But damn rascals closed it. Quote

Saiming Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 There is, however, something called part-time job. My first one was when I was about 16 :) My teacher mentions a website called Piano Sheet Music - Piano Street never actually used it, but it is rather obvious that there is mostly sheet music for piano :P Check it out :) Quote

nikolas Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Heh... I've been following the IMSLP problem rather closely, until the forums closed down as well. IMSLP closed, not because it was forced and UE had pretty much withdrawn their moronicly written letter. After all the simple problem would be solved: A. remove those scores which cause problem, by tracing IP. B. Moderate all incoming scores. C. Enjoy living. They closed down, as the creator mentioned in the page, because of the size of the project which simply was too much. EDIT: I have decided that in order to not kill myself (figuratively) from overload, I will not be taking major actions with regards to IMSLP until the end of this semester (in less than 2 months), unless circumstance dictate otherwise. However, I will continue accepting offers to own or host IMSLP, very preferably by Canadian organizations; please do contact imslp@imslp.org . I will also be responding to e-mails and discussion on the forums, and very possibly prepare and release the IMSLP Mediawiki database within this time. I'm already in the middle of preparations for the continuation of IMSLP. No, IMSLP is not dead :) From the main page. I sure hope that IMSLP will reopen, and of course noone should be able to refuse Public Domain scores from any public, even if they are NOT public domain elsewhere (which was the main problem, actually). But still... Quote

sciolist Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 there are a couple of DVD's available on EBAY that have hundreds of piano scores for maybe 30 bucks. It's all legal because the editions are in the public domain. Quote
