I was wondering if anyone here has listened to Elfman's Serenada Schizophrana. It is a quite interesting piece that offers up some good ideas. To be honest, the piece in it's entirety gets somewhat repetitive to my ears, but it is still enjoyable. I think my favorite movement is "I Forget". The choral and percussive elements in this movement are particularly cool.

The Improv for Alto Sax is also cool, but I might be biased because I'm a saxophonist as well.

Anyhoo, just wondering if anyone else has listened to this work.

Thanks,

Nathan

I think it's subpar. It's orchestrated terribly; it sounds way too thin. In addition, it sounds like the background music to something else...which doesn't exist.

I'm an Elfman fan, but if you're going to write concert works, at least make sure they have the ability to stand on their own.

Yup. Danny Elfman did the title theme from The Simpsons. Also did the work for pretty much every Tim Burton film ever made. Batman, Big Fish, Edward Scissor Hands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, even Planet of the Apes. All Elfman. His style is currently being ripped off on the ABC show "Pushing Daisies." Here's his imdb.

I saw an article about Serenada Schizophrana somewhere around ign I think? Anyway, the idea of composers living in both the concert and Hollywood world has always piqued my interest. Is there an available copy of the performance?
