A Forgotten Legend Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 I want to use the words from Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven for a Choral Composition Competition, and I'm not allowed to use any copyrighted material. Is it copyrighted? Would it be okay to use as long as I put "Words from Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven"? If not then I have to find find something else. If that's the case, any recommendations on Poems that I could use? (Since I suck at making my own words!) Quote
red82991 Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 If you want something original perhaps I could write something for you, just let me know what you have in mind. Quote
Daniel Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 The Raven is long out of copyright, as far as I know. If something is still under copyright, just putting the author's name is not enough. You'll need to put his name on it anyway, even though there isn't (as far as I know) a copyright still on it. Quote

I think I stick with stuff already written. Daniel, thanks, I knew I'd need the name, but I wasn't sure about the copyright issue. Thanks. :) Quote
A Forgotten Legend Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 Nvm, my band teacher gave me a book from the school library with poems in it, I got a poem. Quote
Yagan Kiely Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Written in 1858, it is long out of copyright as long as the edition you use hasn't got any editorial editions to the work. Quote
